First DONE4 Booked! Thanks!

Well I've jumped in the deep end and booked by first ever DONE4! All the help from so many of you is so appreciated.

The trip will take me to HKG, DME, FRA, LON, LAX, MCO, HKG, PVG and so many more places. I've maximised my "First:" legs in the US and managed a side trip to St Petersberg!

I booked it online flying out of AKL, and whilst I could have saved some taxes calling the AA desk, I could be bothered, online was so easy!

So the trip starts with a positioning flight and return to MEL is two weeks, then the rest starts in August. Bring it on!

QF029, it worked out around $10,800 inc Taxes. But I need return to AKL, so that's around $600 more.

I'm also breaking the trip at LAX, returning home and coming back, but that's in Y. This way I can divide the total costs between two trips, perfect! I would happily avoid the LAX-MEL return legs in Y, but that's fine, I've done it a few times before.

This trip will be a good points earner too, as I get nothing from credit cards etc, I only get my points from flying, so can't wait to watch the points add up!

That's not a bad way, given ex-USA flights to AUS are good value right now. Depending on your status you can get quite a fair few points. I looked at this option ex-JFK before and as a WP would have received almost 40,000 points return (and the price for my dates were like $1,200).

I hadn't though about the points on the economy leg (LAX-MEL return), I'll get 32K in points. Good bonus. I think all up including the positioning flights, I'll get over 1550 SC's and haven't accurately worked out the points. The trip falls over two membership years, but I'm getting 1000 of the SC's in the next year, WP renewal virtually locked away!
