Didn't hear much wind or rain during the night so the proof will be what is flowing through the local creek - time to walk the dogs

Best wishes to all those in the path of Cyclone Marcia.

Local creek (Cabbage Tree Creek) has gone up at least a metre in last 24 hours

Path still open but if it keeps raining the creek will burst its banks today (see rock wall in foreground of last photo))

Rain has got steadily heavier this morning and creek is now (at its widest point) now half full. This shot in the last floods was just a metre under the road - currently 4m under but that won't last long

Tarpaulin over the breach in the neighbours retaining wall is diverting some of the rain from soaking into the ground. I have inspected this morning and can see rivulets coming through so will be an interesting weekend

TC Marcia has made landfall and tracking down the coast and inland. 285 kmph winds at centre. That will pick up a car and throw it, let alone picket fences and anything left not securely tied down.

Yeppoon is now under emergency conditions - 600 people in the Cyclone Centre bunkers. Should go through there at 1pm.

Rain at Fortitude Valley (work) is steadily getting heavier and view back to Brisbane CBD is closing out. Our stormwater drain is taking the current levels but I fear it will flood later today. HAve alreaady told the staff that we will close the office before it gets too bad.

Breakfast Creek bank full so Virgin HQ basement carpark should be flooding by now. Plenty of road closures around Brisbane. When dropping my son to Prep, his class was 8 fewer than yesterday - most of them live in flood zones, so better to stay at home.

Was in Bundaberg yesterday and Virgin made you get to the airport only to be told that the flight was cancelled after checking in. Picked up a car and drove to Brisbane last night. Boarding flight back to MEL now. I reckon i just made it in time driving back last night. stay safe everyone.

All very normal on Tamborine Mountain. Steady rain and wind though the ground is already saturated from days of rain.
If the wind picks up then we will get a lot of trees wanting to lie down over roads and power lines.

Really wet in inner western Brisbane now.....I hope they are oiling those backflow valves which the BCC installed over the past few years.

Here is an article for anyone interested.

Closing these off if the river rises will be a significant benefit for me as I went 3 mtrs under last time...provided the rain isn't falling faster that the river is rising.

If anyone is ever in the Milton and has time, do walk down into the underpass near the John Oxley Centre and have a look at the structure. When in position, the gate is basically like a giant refrigerator door, with the rising water pushing it shut tighter and tighter. Quite neat.

My feeling is that they wont be needed in this weather event.

BFF just forwarded an email to RBWH staff about flooding around Northey, Cullen, Nicholas, Victoria Sts and more. Tide is now going down, but other reports from friends further up Enoggera creek is that the creek is steadily rising. Enoggera is fresh water, and influenced by the water in its catchment (not Wivenhoe!), and meets Breakfast Creek, which is tidal.
Ahh, fun.

Also emailed and rang our property managers to ensure that our tenants near Downey Park know to move things upstairs, and also how to open the automatic garage door if there is no power. Hope they get the messages, and am bracing myself for the next insurance claim.

Katie, my thoughts (and Mrs QF WP) are with you and Mr Katie. It's been raining steadily here since my last post, with only 2 short respites.

Marcia is now down to cat 3 and the eye is no longer visible on the latest satellite images, so that's good news on the wind side of things. Hopefully it structure would deterioate soon. There isn't much that can be changed in terms of rainfall but at least it can be spread out over a wider area as the cyclone loses its organisation.

Back to heavy rain again in Fortitude Valley. We're closing up the office at 3pm, to let our staff (both live on the northside) more time to get home. As I live on that side as well, I might as well go too.

You must have slept soundly.

Hope everyone is safe. I'm going to get to get soaked.

PQQ has only had around 25 mm of rain today (slowly coming down from the north) but the 3.30pm QF flight from SYD was unable to land-passengers apparently being put on the 6.30pm service for another go

Enjoying a pause .... just issued BOM warning reads that we can expect another 450mm of rain overnight/Saturday.

Currently sitting out the back of my place ( live on canal area on Sunshine Coast) listening to the water rush under a nearby bridge that is usually no where near over flowing. Relatively calm here but forecast to be hit by Marcia still as category 1 on Sunday. I guess golf will be called off at Headland course on Sunday.

Finished off my junior years at Headland, been a member since 1980 ... only social membership these days. We should organise a golf day over drinks in IST
