My husband and I are flying on QF107 on the 1/5/07 in Economy Class as we are paying for it :(. I've been told that this is normally a pretty empty flight so I'm hoping that we will be able to have a row of 3 between us. Currently I have a middle seat as DH likes the window seat and i like the aisle seat, so we flipped for it and he won  .

I can see which seats we've been allocated on Check My Trip, however when you click to get the seat map up it comes up with an error message "The seat option is not available at this moment. Please contact your travel provider for information regarding your seats". I don't want to bother the Qantas call centre.

Is there any other way of finding out if there's anyone in the 3rd seat in our row, or whether there are lots of free seats on the plane so I might be able to sleep.

TIA ;)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Are you going SYD-LAX, SYD-JFK or LAX-JFK, the seat allocation may vary somewhat.

In any case, I think your flight may be pretty full in both WHY and J as Expert Flyer is not returning those seat maps for SYD-LAX and not even the F seat map for SYD/LAX-JFK.

Thanks for all your replies. We are doing the SYD-LAX leg only on that day.

i'm still new at this and am also confused. for date 01/05/07, map syd-lax 107 shows 34a and b occupied but 36a and b still blocked. and plenty of blocked seats and empty seats.

i'm confused because ef uses american dating and to my thinking 01/05 says jan 5th, which is pass. it won't show anything for 05/01 when i do it the aussie way

maybe someone else can help that has more understanding.

Thanks for having a look parsonstrich! I think there's something funny going on with that flight, hence why I can't view it on checkmytrip. It's wierd because we are flying QF107 from LAX to JFK on 7/5 and I can see that the flight is basically empty.

I also had a look on seatcounter and there looks like there's plenty of seats available in all classes of the SYD-LAX flight so I might be in luck  otherwise, I will be drinking nothing during the flight so as not to inconvenience the unknown person sitting next to me.

poppet,
i tried again syd-lax on 7th but still not coming up. i'm with you re not drinking on flt. i finally scored a bulkhead window seat coming up to lhr and then return from lax. i usually get aisle seat but chose not to say anything when seats booked. i thought getting any bulkhead seat is a bonus. on a diet to try and 'slink' past seat b & c w/out falling on laps, stepping on toes, etc. :D have a great trip, trish

Hi

I tried doing some dummy bookings in our corporate travel booking tool which normally shows a seat map & allows seat selection.

I tried for 1 May & 1 day either side - not getting the chance to select seats :(

I noticed this once before on a booking - no idea what was wrong - had to wait 'til check in for seat allocation :(

Sorry couldn't help

Regards

Sue

Most airlines stop allowing seat selection when a flight already has a certian percentage of pre-selected seats.

So it may well be a reasonably full flight already.

Excellent .... NOT! Oh well, looks like I will suffer in the middle seat for the 13 hour flight. Luckily I'm only small (5"1'), but I will hold it against DH for at least the first few days of the trip.

Does anyone know any good sleep assistance tablets you can get over the counter? It might make the trip more bearable. I saw the Nyal ones at the supermarket but wasn't sure whether they are any good.

Why limit yourself to over-the-counter assistance. Visit you GP and explain the need (jet-lag assistance for long-haul international travel) and you should be offered the good stuff :D . My GP has no problems with prescribing me stuff that works well for me. And he bulk-bills the consultation.

Slightly OT - but how do those pills combine with alcohol NM? With some of my flights I would like to sleep the whole flight but dont sleep well - however am concerned that alcohol in lounge and on prior flights might not be a good combinaiton.

simongr, Something specific in mind or should i just ask my father about what brands are ok to drink with ;)
Handy having a medical professional in the family.

General question really - I normally dont take any medication as most things you can recover from pretty quickly anyway and pain meds dont tend to affect me (well panadeine forte affects me but just knocks me about rather than dulling pain and voltaren (and other ibuprofen) do nothing) - apart from cortezone injections which are great. SO I have no idea what options for sleeping there are on the plane :)

I never combine the two. Its one or the other for me. I rarely use the pills on the flight, but use them to enable me to sleep at the appropriate time in a hotel room.

See if you can find a naturpath (sp?) that handles melatonin with vit. B6 (nature's essence brand). I find after 15 mins of taking one, i'm asleep (and sleep doesn't happen easy for me all the time). the effect last abt. 6 hrs. and i wake up great, no groggy feeling, etc. Helps fantastic with jet lag. I usually take them for abt. 4 days post flt. as well at night. I get them at Sinapore int'l a/port at chemist. small little place tucked at back of one of the sections. I've been told some naturpaths sell melatonin.

I bought another brand nature's bounty in nyc. Didn't have the vit. B6 and never made me sleepy.

The doc prescribed me sleeping tab's pre-last flt. Never again. I didn't take them on flt. as I would wake up almost staggering and experienced nightmares.

good luck, trish
