Anyone know what a large 4-engine plane (hard to identify at a distance) with 2 fighter jets off the port wing was doing at low altitude over Melbourne at 10:23 today?

I'd say it would be a photo op for the airshow. They gerenally do one every time.
I'll check the wires and see, but my guess it could have been an F/A-18 along with the C-117 Globemaster.
That's it, saw a news flash on the 24 hours TV in our office reception on a new Globemaster arriving. Perhaps timed for a delivery into Avalon?![]()

I heard the first flyover and saw the second; it definitely wasn't a C-17 Globemaster III (jet engines), so I'm going with a Hercules. I'm not good enough with fighter jets to be able to tell what they were, but they could well have been F/A-18s.
The Herc has been used in previous events for the Photo op
Saw them from level 40 here at 80 Collins St. (Nauru House).
Didn't hear a thing which sucks as there is nothing like a twin engined fighter jet going slow. Unless there are two of them!
Oh, it was a c-130 and two F/A-18's.
