With a 15 year old getting a paid for trip around the world means that our two friends will be going in December once school breaks up. They have offers of accommodation in London, New York , Los Angeles and Sydney so that will keep their smallish budget more under control.
They will want to get to San Francisco, Vancouver and Paris as side trips.
Who should they do the Round the World booking with in economy for the three of them to get a reliable carrier starting in Perth and heading for London as a first stop?

Maybe start off with QR as PER-DOH-LHR? Their new airport should be open by then and also one of the LHR flights will be on an A380. They are very good in Y.

You should pocket the $10k and arrange the RTW yourself with some of the mileage you have amassed. I'm sure you should easily make a profit. ;) :p

I have looked on Expedia....how is Garuda in 2014? QR and Emirates look ok.
We cannot use miles easily as you are suggesting so it will be more than likely three paid for tickets and they mentioned Emirates last night at dinner but they have zero points nor any credit cards.
I wouldn't try to make a profit and they will be ok with economy so points won't be needed.
My friend did an AirAsia cheapie to London and he survived that a few years ago.

Garuda has scooped a few awards in previous years, including best Y in Asia. I've never flown them, but the pundits seem to agree that they have a firm foot on the market.

Years ago Garuda were cough but I think they no longer run the cabin at 30 degrees Celcius. They have the best price on Expedia.

Temp was the last of your worries when the tv monitor fell down, or the overhead storage opened mid flight...

Long time ago. The modern Garuda I have not flown, but like others have heard it is apparently ok. I haven't found many AFFers game to try it though, and not met anyone personally who has actual recent experience on them.

they are perfectly fine. probably not so much a case of AFFers being 'game' to fly them but whether or not there are lots of skyteam FFers on here?

...and the breakfast Orange Juice was served straight from a 4L caterers tin, opened with a triangle head tin opener. One tin did the whole DC-10, IIRC.

I've flown Garuda around Asia a couple of times. I couldn't fault them. Some colleagues flew J with them last month, they were VERY impressed. I'd have no hesitation is booking them for myself, but I keep getting drawn back into OW carriers.

Their new 77W F class looks one of the best I have ever seen! I wish Skyteam had members that sold points like USDM/LM
