Falling out of love?

I must be very lucky then on QF flights and very unlucky on JQ flights.

First, if you didn't notice I was joking.
Second, you don't have to be P1 to get row 4 and I find it hard to believe that person always gets shadow because even P1s don't always get shadow.

He always gets a shadow when I'm sitting on the other side of the shadow. Given the frequency I sit in row 4 you might be able to guess that I'm well aware you don't have to be P1 to get that the row. But row 4 is available to P1 at all times. Whereas is lowly platinums cannot consistently get that row.

On my last VA flight I was served out of date food

That's illegal isn't it? Why is it that VA continually get away with illegal trading (Out of date food, charging different fares to those advertised, invoicing different amounts to that charged etc, just to name a few that spring immediately to mind) and when they're taken to task they get away with it, usually by the lame excuse of "computer glitches"?

You know what......I hope their uselessness is constrained to the sundries. Imagine if their inability to deal with these most basic of issues extends through to their servicing and parts procurement........where would that leave us all?

I'll add a little annoyance. Points not matching the purchased fare. Booked a return that was say $200 in one direction and $100 on the return. The first flight has given me 1500 points, that is points for half the cost of the booking. Not points for the cost of the first flight. Just another little thing to keep tracking to make sure the balance is properly credited when taking the return flight in a few months time.

Oh....I forgot the pearler of all........double dipping into punters credit cards and billing for the same sale twice! I still believe they got me with that....and never returned the cash on their own accord....but as the lady who looked after my books for me was murdered, I've drawn a line under that period of time and I will never be sure one way or the other (unless I had a need to reopen a very sad period of my life).

I Have had this happen to me too, on the 2 occasions I couldn't get upgrade to business (of course all were empty bar 1!)

Not only that, but also charged a difference in price of $2 for the same drinks. To add to that, on the same flight, I asked to buy an extra meal and was refused even though the cart was full and ungentlemanly flight attendant had just offered the man in front an extra one for FREE!

Even in business class a hot dog or coughpy cheese platter is just a joke!

The type of person? Well the people I see around me on Virgin flights are largely the same half dozen people I see every week. Even, heaven forbid, someone with a P1 qantas bag tag.

Last week I was surrounded by the guys from Sepultura on my flight from BNE -> SYD. That made an interesting change.

(they were very polite btw)

I can't say enough good things about VA at the moment. Recently flew in J SYD-OOL return and the service and the food where excellent with a load of 7/8 and 8/8. Never have problems with the website (except during the Sabre conversion). Point always turn up in time and always correct. Even if retro has to be done the points turn up within the quoted time frame. (recently had to do retro claim for HA flights) All is good for me on the VA front... :) Off course now that I have made this statement, watch this space. Knowing my luck things will go bad.

Today I am in love, 3 flights next week and comp upgrades used for all flights
!

Still mainly flying VF domestically - but agree with the majority in that VF need to do a bit more for their status pax flying Y.

I spread my loyalties between VA and QF. QF for all international and VA for the majority of domestic. If I were to be brutally honest though I don't think VA have lived up to the early hype. Unless I'm flying J I may as well be VA Red as far as the service is concerned. As for the lounges they are light years away from the QF domestic J Lounges. I am aware that this opinion isn't universally popular here.
To cut a long story short if I were forced to choose between the two it would be an easy decision and not in VA's favour.

Fly OneWorld internationally (or more recently EK destinations on QF code) and VA domestically (unless QF is cheaper or JQ is beating Tiger on price :D). Don't see myself rushing to retain VA Platinum, Gold will do me fine in the future. Will keep OneWorld Emerald though, just need to decide whether I retain it on BA, AA or QF.

Finally convinced my better half (QF WP) to try Virgin as QF don't fly to Bali. Very reasonable J price, but it was all downhill from there. Initial flight out of Sydney was delayed, then cancelled once she was checked in and in the lounge. Was offered a hotel room at Rooty Hill which was declined in favour of coming home.
booked on a 0700 flight to Melbourne, connecting with the Melbourne Bali flight, so not much sleep.
She got to Bali, but two bags with all the work equipment missing. Due to join a ship in two days, but not much point if equipment does not turn up.
I must say my Virgin experiences have been fairly good, but I doubt I will be able to convince my wife to try them again.
PS will update if the bags are found!

Isn't this an occurrence that could have happened with any airline :?:

BAHAHAH! ROOTY HILL!? Why did they not just give you a swag and tell you to enjoy the night in the carpark?

It certainly is, and as I mentioned, not happened to me. I was commenting on the irony of first "toe in the water" by my wife ending in a possible disaster. And as others have commented, things do go wrong. It is how the company in question deals with these situations that is a reflection on that company's service level. To date, my wife is not impressed.

I may have had a glass of something tonight but I just burst out laughing when I read this (no offense intended at your partner BTW).
Yes it may have happened on any airline but for it to have happened to a QF WP trying VA J for the first time does not speak well of VA IRROPS for J passengers.

No offence taken, I was having a chuckle as well ( but don't tell my wife!)
good news is, bags have been delivered and my wife is joining you and having a glass of something.

Sounds about right for VA

I think the point is that it was VA....not just any airline. I find myself wondering why it is that every time VA stuff up, a few posters here (and yes Bill, you are usually first in line) pipe up that it's not VAs fault as it could happen to any airline. Of course it could happen to any airline, but it was not just any airline it was VA........yet again! The "oh this could happen to any airline" spiel is not a valid excuse and has become very tired.

and Rooty Hill .......

Easy answer is that at the same time there are several posters that always pipe up an say things like
Sounds about right for VA
. Those comments have become very tired also.

My statement was generic and not specific but now that you raise it I personally I have had quite a few baggage fails and the like with Qantas, AA and BA but never such an issue from VA. I had one significant stuff with VA but the service recovery was great. I ring Qantas Corporate about twice weekly on average and their online staff their vary from exceptional to just OK and their telephone response time has recently gone from very good to just OK and getting worse. At the same time I still say that this type of thing could happen with any airline.

Also note from my status that I actually fly with QF a lot more than I fly with VA.
