Till then its sit back, enjoy the rollercoaster ride and RISK it would plummet even more.

Doing my further reading into the AUD predictions, most reports indicate that the dollar will commence its descent to around 55-60 US cents by mid-2009. It will then level out and gradually climb back up to around around a hopeful 75-77 US cents by the close of this year.

SO based on the above predictions - I have now jumped off the rollercoaster and have played chicken , that is, I will now prepay some of my bookings.

I'm trying to (especially with 50% off Hilton promotion for weekends & 25% for two day+ bookings) but only one of three hotels has actually charged ...

Well for those who hesitated in booking their hilton promo stays, or exchanging their USD ... back down to 67c today.

Currently in the lounge at LHR after a month in France paying 2 AUD per EUR. Was it worth it? You bet! Prepare and you can cut costs. Check the Accor site for good hotel deals and book 30 days in advance and you get easily 50% discount. Book rail tickets online in advance and you save heaps. I travel for pleasure and part of the fun of it is doing what the locals do to extend their buying power.

I found a good deal flying D to and from Europe on Oneworld airlines so why not. Depending on what happens next year, either D or Y+.

You make your own luck so just do it.

Yep you can make your own luck and be a bit creative but most of the time I'd rather the luck come to me! What I mean by this? I'd prefer if the AUD was getting better overseas value rather than me running around trying to find the best deal / rate.

By the way, welcome to AFF Postcode.

BTW New Zealand dollar has fell to quite a bit. Maybe it’s a good time to go there for a holiday!

Just saw on XE.COM 1AUD = 0.70001USD!
But does 1AUD still buy 1AUD? ;)

Seriously could be the right time to purchase accommodation for my trip in August/September before the AUD takes another tumble....

I purchase a significant amount of pre-paid Accommodation in Early January, the last time the AUD/USD ratio was at this level.

It was seemingly a good investment then ...

I also played chicken in January and prepaid some accommodation for May 2009 and got back a rate of 70.xx UScents

Now its back up to around 70.xx UScents. Should I book some more? ;)

RBA website shows .69sumtin.....

Just went ahead and booked/paid for the domestic USA "F" run I've been hanging on to...

It's an open jaw from/to places I need to be on the next trip... so not a pure "MR" in the eyes of many...

It will credit lots of Airbucks (more than half of Gold requal)... and given I HAVE to be in those places anyway, and the best Y fare for the trips was USD $451..

I think I even came out ahead.....in a way.

Haven't seen the CC charge yet so I don't know the actual rate used.. but it will no doubt be better than a week or two ago!
