while on hold waiting for a JQ rep, I amused myself by going into Ebay. $190.00 for 4 QF gold baggage tags, and $114.00 for 4 silver QF baggage tags. Flabbergasted!

Check Etsy. Maybe someone is making a necklace out of them, like the early hip hoppers/rappers with their extra large gold or clock necklaces, but QF tags. :)

Suspect some punters don't understand how they work. They probably think buying those tags will then get them priority luggage.

I actually think most people who buy them simply want them on their bags for the look at me factor.

I cant believe people bother using them.

I had one tag (SG) "lost" somewhere between MEL and JFK (bag checked in international so had paper tag, checkin said Ok to leave on as they dont use intl) and every other tie i've used them domestically my bag has been last out (no priority) vs paper tag nearly always priority.

i am ashamed, sort of, to admit to leaving my Platinum tags on my baggage even after i slipped down down to bronze when i retired from my "lots of air miles" job. Ego? yes, possibly. Sadness? yes, possible, especially when the cattle class keeper throws our lunch biscuit at us.

A case of DYKWIW cherft? ;)

My coasters are still in their original packaging.

In fact I have not had any status tags on my bags for at least a decade. IKWIA!

Hells bells, I refused to use my silver card when I dropped from gold. It still worked. But I didnt do it for other people but to convince me. But now I've ditched the gold card for a shiny dark grey.

When I relocated from London to Sydney in 1993 I had BA lounge status. However I joined QF and started the long process of accumulating status. My first flight was to Wellington and the check-in lady noticed the BA luggage tag on my briefcase and gave me a lounge invitation explaining my BA status entitled me to lounge access. I explained I didn't have my BA card with me but she said that didn't matter. Until then I wasn't even aware BA had lounge reciprocity with QF.

Upon my return I dug my BA card out and realised it had expired the day before I flew to Wellington and I would have dropped down to the non-lounge access level (blue?). Still I left the old BA tag on my briefcase for the rest of the year. I was doing monthly trips to NZ and was always given a QF lounge invitation when I pointed to my BA tag. No-one ever bothered to take a closer look at it. It was a different era then ......

I still have the original tags on my bags that I got when I joined QFF in September 2001 when the kiwis killed Ansett. They proudly display my then Bronze status but I'm now not sure of WIA

Departing PER domestic on Friday. Approaching the check-in counters and about to enter the business class check-in (was flying business) and the QF staff member patrolling saw my gold bag tag on my carry on bag. She said oh yes, I can see your status. That's the correct queue.

So there you have it.

This is sick or sad. How insecure or insignificant must this person be to purchase status to impress others? There are more important things in life.
Any different to the person buying expensive cars?

I've had similar when using the priority screening queue at SYD (when it's policed). The lady looked down, noted the tag on my bag, and waved me through.

But what happens when you go to priority check in and you dont have status, just a ebay purchased tag to look good?

All hat, no cattle as they say.
