Hi all
I have my first F class with by staff this monday. Its a morning flight SYD-HKG and I am wondering what the ettiquette is on doing business in F. We have a bit of work to do on Monday (I am off to PEK and he is off to HKG) so I was thing we would use the little ottoman style foot style to get on with some work (when we are not being fed).
One my few first flights I didnt really see people talking/meeting in F - is it not the done thing?
Cheers
S

P.s. On our flight back from HKG after we have spent 7 hours in the Pier F lounge I dont think we will be doing much work... ;)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

It was originally advertised as a seat; images of some well-to-do's playing cards at the table spring to mind.

These days I believe Qantas discourage it as the person on the ottoman has no seatbelt an may become a projectile in the event of significant Clear air turbulence.

I suggest that you ask the CSM nicely. :D

Or we just avoid working completely ;)

Well, doing no work is certainly an option but Air NZ and Virgin Atlantic (both Business I know, but with an ottoman) encourage visitors and promote that you can have "shared" dining experiences. Is Qantas policy really that down the line?

I noticed that BA had seatbelts fitted on their ottoman's in F

I had the captain come and spend about half an hour sitting on my ottoman on a flight SYD-LAX. He came down to greet all the passengers and I was his last visit, sitting in 4K. I had met this captain before and we struck conversation about one of his passions (historic aircraft restoration) and he stayed and had two cups of coffee while we chatted.

So if the seat is good enough for the captain, then should be good enough for a fellow passenger.

Personally, I would be pretty annoyed if fellow passengers sat down for a face-to-face extended chat.

The F cabin is so intimate and quiet, other passengers would be able to hear what you were talking about.

Not the done thing in my humble opinion.

Although I've travelled in F, never had anybody drop by for a chat other than the FSD and Captain

Decorum is the name of the game. If F is empty, then you're okay. If there are a few spare seats around, try and place yourself so that you are as far away from others and keep your voices down to a dull roar  (ah yes I'm being sarcastic here  ).

Do unto others as you would wish them to do unto you.

P.S. Happy birthday simongr for Sunday May 13...probably when you'll read this. Enjoy your flights

As long as everyone is not sleeping, I think you should be able to talk as la=ong as below said dull roar!.

Seats E & F would be best as you could talk across the battlements as it were.

Thanks - actually got this whilst in the F lounge waiting to baord ;)

As long as it is quiet and not disturbing others (noise or light) then should be okay. BTW NZ's business class ottoman's have a seatbelt. If QF's don't (I don't remember seeing them but could have missed it) then it won't be allowed during "turbulence" (ie when seatbelt sign is on).

I have done "work" with someone else in F in a few airlines. A couple of times even lucky enough to be allowed up from business or the other person allowed up (generously and should never be counted upon).

Happy birthday simongr :)

Any chance we can have this type of ettiquette filter through to the economy cabin?

I didn't think so....

What does that say about economy class pax? :D (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

That is OK!

Pay peanuts for an economy class seat and you get monkeys around you!

Hmmm, I sense a little bit of "Zaphod Beeblebrox" and the "Total Perspective Vortex" here ... :p

In the end we both were on opposite sides of the aircraft and settled into our drinks - I dozed for a couple of hours also (stressed weekend and lukcy I slept after the later events of the day - trip repot coming).

Stressed weekend?
With Mothers' Day or yuor Birthday?
Belated Happy Birthday Simon :D

Let's just say that a shared mother's day/birthday has opportunities for enhancement... next year I am moving my birthday to August 12th (the glorious twelfth - start of teh grouse hunting season) or April 13th...

Well today is the new Mrs Altair's birthday.
After I pointed out to her that as Mothers Day and her birthday are so close that she will more than likely be short changed if we have kids;) , she now wants to move to a country that has Mothers Day at a different time.

Mini Shano's first birthday was 12th May, so Mrs Shano is also feeling a little shortchanged that our daughter's birthday fell so close mothers day. A battle for attention amongst the girls in our household.....
