I don't think you can book an F Apartment seat as an award ticket on the 388 ex-SYD (or ex-anywhere) can you ?
I checked a few days ago for a multitude of dates on the 388 ex-SYD and it seemed blocked, consistent with what some bloggers have been seeing (all F awards on the 388 currently being blocked to all destinations).

Would be interesting if someone has noticed otherwise.

That said, the EY Business Studio product on the 388 looks very very good. I'm planning a trip to MLE next year too and was saving up points for a KF redemption as SQ have a better connection, but now you've got me thinking....

Not yet.

They have had patchy availability on the 787 ex-BNE which is what I had been considering.

I am doing Sq on the way back. The EY connect actually works very well for me. Overnight flight and you land in MLE in the early-afternoon so you don't lose much time. 2.5 hours on the ground in AUH to connect is good IMO as well.

I saw that F award availability ex-BNE on the 789 but recently it has disappeared. Still with the 388 J you do get the benefit of the EY SYD lounge as well.

Yes, it wasn't there on the day I wanted to fly which made the decision quite simple. The new J will be nice anyway (though a little concerned about the width of the seat?).

Have decided to surprise the to be Mrs Bismarck with SQ Suites on the way back (probably more of a gift to me than her!)

Have been looking for F on EY 388 coming home from RWC in October 2015
None released. So have waitlisted SG suite and have a confirmed QF2 f seat if needed
Hopefully the F class will release before then

Can you combine an EY flight with one world on same ticket for same points? I have a BNE -LHR but need to get to EDI, could this leg on BA have been part of the itinerary for the 75k in points?

Yes you can travel as follows:
oneworld and Other Airline Awards allow members to travel on a combination of any of our oneworld and other participating airlines that offer eligible service to your destination. Our combination of AAdvantage oneworld and other participant airlines can take you to over 950 destinations throughout the world. You may, of course, always travel on American Airlines for any portion of the itinerary. These awards are subject to special limitations on seating availability and to travel embargo dates on some participant airlines.

However you have a change of destination so there will be a fee for the change (likely $150).

Thanks fee was waived as the lovely lady understood that we had asked for this itinerary from the start.

Will be nice to know all on the one ticket should any delays happen

A good outcome. I recommend a visit to Rosslyn chapel if you haven't already been.

Just as a heads up to everyone 789 F ex-BNE seems to have opened up again with patchy availability to those interested.
I'm tossing up whether to go for that or 388 J Business Studio ex-SYD at least that way I can check out the EY lounge.
But I guess F is F.

Booked BNE-AUH-JFK in F for 2 of us next Sep, can't wait. (Albeit using Velocity points)

Thanks for confirming that it can be done. Wanted to do something similar with Oz to EU on EY and then one final leg on BA.

just to confirm if using EY from australia to usa, or australia to europe - it needs to be booked as 2 separate awards? e.g. SYD-AUH F 60k and then AUH-DFW F 90k?

so not the greatest value when compared to say a USDM booking?

So 150K is the cost using AA miles on EY for MEL-AUH-GVA ??? for F ?

Looking through all of 2015, I can only see one day with 2 x F GUEST seats though :( SYD-AUH-GVA

Is availability always this bad ?

Most airlines don't release seats in one batch and never again.
These days the vast majority of airlines stage releases as 'filler' seats as a means to generate some revenue for a seat they think otherwise might not sell for cash.
In this sense you may find seats open up over time on specific dates. Check out awardnexus it's a good tool for keeping on top of award inventory :)
