SC calculator has been revamped/merged with classic award/upgrade calculators: Qantas Points Calculators | Frequent Flyer

Personally I dislike it - you can no longer string multiple legs together and see a total SC count.

The one positive change is the "what you need to know" section which has better transparency around booking classes, particularly on partner airlines. A good move for those less informed.

And just for a laugh, KUL-BKK calculations are STILL incorrect.

Oh dear. Tried using this and immediately realise the QA process must have been a 10-minute job before going into production (no surprise there)

1) Usual QF recent trend of Whitespace Nirvana and larger font size, meaning more scrolling is required.
2) You can't now tab to the next box if you enter the three-letter airport code; the previous incarnation allowed this. Again, more mouse interaction.
3) Trying to change departure/arrival airport once a route's result is displayed clears your previous search. This is clunky.
4) The cabin pictures as icons are simply a waste of time.
5) As already mentioned, the removal of multi leg selections is a pain and, again, results in more mouse/keyboard interaction.

Hopefully this v1.0 will be superseded soon. Not great.

*using Firefox on a Windows desktop so YMMV

yes, its awful. I left scathing feedback on their website feedback form. The multiple leg functionality was great. A stupid decision to get rid of it.

It's possible to scrape the API though and put it into a Google Sheet and do your multiple legs that way. Better than having to do it one at a time now.

I've just done it and you get a lot of information. I'd change all the headers to only pull in the columns needed.

There are a lot more columns than whats shown in this screenshot.

Very cool, thanks for pointing that out. This is gonna make my life a lot easier..

For anyone else playing along at home -

[origin]/[destination]/[carrier eg QF]/[economy/premiumeconomy/business/first].json?status_tier=[Bronze/Silver/Gold/Platinum/Platinum%20One]&date=[YYYY-MM-DD]

Or as an example: https://services.unique.qantas.com/...json?status_tier=Platinum One&date=2020-01-21

The API also now exposes the 'distance' value which Qantas uses to calculate points/SC between two points, which we previously didn't have access to.

BKK-KUL vv is unsurprisingly in the database at "749" which explains the miscalc. They also have a separate value (distance_base) for this route of "757.869512731466". I've checked a few other routes - SYD-MEL, SYD-HND, SYD-LAX etc, and the distance_base value is always the distance value -/+ 10.

Anyone wanna write a script to compare QF distances to IATA TPM? :)

Oh damn. I've known of the existence of this version of the calculator for at least a few weeks now.

Up until yesterday you could access the old calulator from this URL: Qantas Points Calculators | Frequent Flyer

Unfortunately my worst fears have been realised and they're now redirecting it to the new one. Such a shame. The new one is awful and a massive step back, especially when you're trying to calculate for many sectors.

Any idea if this is the distance in the GDS?

In other words, would it give an accurate result when building a 318k J award and needing to stay under 35k miles?

One of the most stupid enhancements QFF have made. What on earth was wrong with the previous calculator, except that it was convenient and useful for punters?

Trying to access your favourite Australian websites when overseas only to discover they have been geo-blocked? Concerned about your internet privacy especially when using unsecured wifi? NordVPN will solve both these common problems.

Que? It was corrupted for a while when the AA/QF JV came into being but other than a couple of anomalies, I found it pretty good?
There were a bunch of destinations it didn’t recognise. Especially with partners.

But that’s also a problem with the booking engine.

Were they the ones like flights originating in DOH, which never showed up on booking or rewards pages because Qantas didn't have credit card agreements with that (those) countries? I'm asking because I've recently relied on the old calculator to ensure my WP re qualification in an up-coming RTW :)

Any examples off the top of your head welcome.

I agree it improved when they went back to the old AA deal.

The KUL-BKK one was the big one.

But the ones I’m thinking of were mostly seasonal destinations for instance HEL or LHR to EFL

If your recent WP requal trip(s) are on the main routes I’m sure you’ll be fine.👍
