Employer Perks you wish you got

I am in IT. Live in SYD and work out in the sticks.

And I do 4-5 trips to Thailand a year and as I love flying I try to get the longest way possible. ;)

And they haven't twigged yet that Anchorage is not a normal way point?

As an owner I earn about 3,000 QFF points per day, every day. Not as many as some but I'm not complaining.

and you're QF 0.01% LTG? I can advise you for a small fee, say 1,000 points per day.

Back in 2000, we had the Gold Passes to the Olympic stadium (wise predecessor bought half a dozen for the company to entertain with). So got to see Opening Ceremony and another 6 days of events plus corporate catering thrown in while looking after those looking after your super.

Also sorely missed - export-only produce from a company when I was a vacation-employee in 80s. You've never seen such big prawns, lobsters etc - air freighted to Tokyo daily direct from catch. "Quality control" by financial controller ensured his direct reports (& external auditors) did not go hungry as 31 Dec year-end work had to be completed.

Another non-cash benefit - Level 44 view of Sydney fireworks in 80s until Gateway got built. The 1988 Naval fireworks made 3D movies seem tame, the 3 huge ones gifted by China had people jumping away from the windows as they seemed to be coming straight for us.

Hmm. MrP was IN the 2000 Olympic opening ceremony. ;)

He wasn't the fire bug setting fire to all those gum tree branches was he?

Or did he have a liking for the Hills Hoist?

That was the closing ceremony. And no, he was in Aussie Uniform.

If that's what he told you then time to make him sweat!

The Hills Hoist and 'smoking' (to drive away evil) were both the opening ceremony. I generously gave my closing ceremony seats to a colleague and her husband.

Hmm. Seems to be some dispute about which ceremony.

As far as the smoking ceremony I have no idea.

My memories of 20 years of employee corporate life was fun on the way up but a grind staying there.
Now in my early 50's and 15 years after starting my own company from scratch, definitely enjoy now being an owner / employer of a mid size company coaching others to do the day to day management.
Touch wood but the early years of having to watch this or that are a thing of the past avoiding the fate of two of my friends, one losing his business and house and the other also losing his marriage.
I found being a business owner liberating in my approach towards money even when I was paying myself a lot less than my previous corporate salary. I no longer felt constrained in my approach to spending being limited to what others deemed my worth to be in a weekly wage.
Easily the biggest benefit though of being an employer is not having your retirement date set by others, something I hope, health permitting to never have to do until we'll into my 70's.
The FF points earn are also not a bad perk and have been able to share the benefit the past 12 months with 8 others beyond my immediate family.

I've had a pretty good run. I've had a company car for 25 years with full private use for me and my family. All the travel perks I could wish for, including five star hotels, hire cars and company credit card. FF points to fly return to Europe first class with my wife.

I lost all the travel perks when I took a package from my last job, and loss of status hurts like hell. But I still have the car and credit card. can't complain.

I remember a perk which I thought was extremely cool at the time. My first boss was a judge and I thought I had it made, as a very junior Judge's Associate, when we were shuffled into the Ansett and TAA duty manager's office for drinks and nibbles prior to flights out of SYD and MEL. The flights were always first class of course. We would sit beside his desk and watch the hoi polloi walking to their flights. This was before most of you were born and before FF was even imagined.

Im lucky to say that im still on the same travelling "system" for the past thirty years; accruing all type of points, anything over 3 hours J etc, etc. When you are in demand you can still negotiate! (so hopefully it doesnt change with age!)

And a company car never worried me, have never driven a vehicle of any sort!!!!

The one 'perk' I am glad to have lost as a public servant is the FF points which we technically weren't allowed to use.

Just a headache
