The 2000 vintage is standard on the route in F- Moet for everyone else, both J and Y.

Journey completed. Business Class Mote non vintage in F before take off. Dom Perignon 2002 after that

Best F class I have been on!!

Was it worth it? It's something I've been looking at as it's likely my only chance to be in first class on any aircraft with any carrier :)

I've thought about doing this trip.

Can you share some more details about the experience, please? :D

Its worth the expeience if you have never been F class you will be starting at the top!. Will be on Etihad F Class next year in July so waiting to see how that compares, but if SYD/AKL is your option go for it!

My wife and I flew EK First SYD-AKL last year for a quick weekend getaway up at the Bay of Islands. It was our first F experience outside OneWorld, having flown BA, AA, CX and of course QF across most of their aircraft.

Ground side the lounge isn't as nice as the QF First lounge, but very quiet and apart from a bloke walking around dressed in a cow suit (!) there wasn't much action. Breakfast spread was quite good but buffet style rather than cooked on demand. We didn't get to use EK's limo transfer as we drove up from CBR that morning to catch the flight.

On board the Dom was indeed very nice (it still irks me that QF moved away from Dom a few years ago), and I really enjoyed the cabin layout which would have to be the nicest F layout for a couple that I've experienced (though I haven't tried Singapore's Suites yet). Loved the Gold touches on the trim - really gives a regal feel compared to the more modern interiors of the OneWorld carriers.

Food was very nice even for such a short sector - from memory it was a 'brunch' type menu as we arrived about 1300 NZ time. The dates served with traditional tea were an unusual snack but very tasty.

We didn't try out the on-board shower given the short flight duration.

Semi-coincidentally my wife (re)watched the Sex and the City 2 movie the night before and the characters in the movie fly to the middle east in First on an EK aircraft (rebranded for the movie). If you can bear to watch that movie you'll get a good feel for the cabin layout and experience.

A fathful rendition of the experience. Shower worth the effort. Havent beaten the QF F lounge yet, but 2-3 hour there and QFF or OW F class is no match for EK F class. Will be off to Abu Dabi soon on Etihad F so interested to see what that holds. Also going from PVG to ORD net month on F for AA. Any feed back on that? Cheers B

A tip for young players...knock back the Moet before take-off in F and, every time I've done it at least, they will open a bottle of Dom. ;)

I've only flown AA First on their 777 service JFK-NRT, and to be honest it feels more like a J service than F.

The seats on the 777 are quite nice - I prefer 1J (1A is the same) which swivels towards the window and is about as private as they come on that aircraft, as there are no dividers as in other F cabins to create a sense of personal space. The IFE isn't up to the same standards as other carriers but between my laptop for work and my iPad to catch up on TV shows that's not a big issue.

The food and beverage offering again was more a J offering than F, and if it wasn't for the obligatory ice cream sundae there probably wouldn't be anything to differentiate from the J service. That's not to say there was anything wrong with what was on offer, but just that after my previous flight HKG-JFK with CX on their 777 the different standards were quite apparent.

I can't speak to the lounges in either PVG or ORD but there's nothing special about AA's Flagship Lounges in other ports and I'm not even sure there's anything other than a regular Admiral's Club in PVG.

Your comments are much appreciated. I will have kids in tow (10 & 13) and these are points tickets. no J class points were on offer. I will update the result of the journey to share will all

Flew Aug 2010 BNE-AKL on 747 don't remember if I drank on way over if so all ok but I DO REMEMBER AKL-SYD on 380 1st bottle of DOM chilled nicely but the second bottle was warm, they apologized put in fridge/freezer? Reserved 10min later it wasn’t much better so again apologies but I decided to have something else.

So my advice, if you are intend on drinking more ask them to make sure there are more than two bottles chilling.

Also on such a short flight thought hard (will I, won't I) and very tempted but didn't botter with a shower.

Enjoy your flights

Flew AKL-SYD on saturday.

They were serving Dom as the PDB! I didn't realise till they were topping up someone elses glass.
