hsbc-star-alliance-card-art.pngWhy we like the HSBC Star Alliance credit card

Launched in 2022, the HSBC Star Alliance credit card is the first of its kind anywhere in the world. You'll earn Star Alliance Points which are transferable to a choice of seven Star Alliance member airlines at a time of your choosing. You can also earn Star Alliance Silver or Gold status just by spending on the card, with no flying required!

Once you qualify for the welcome offer and are fast tracked to Star Alliance Gold status with any of the seven participating carriers, you’ll soon be enjoying perks like airport priority lanes and lounge access when flying across the whole Star Alliance network. It is the largest airline alliance in the world with 25 member airlines, including Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines, United and Turkish Airlines.

Please note that the welcome offer is not available to existing HSBC customers transferring from another HSBC credit card, or if you have previously held a HSBC Star Alliance credit card within the last 18 months. Refer to the full T&C’s for more information:

Hopefully there are transition arrangements for those with star gold for 2 years on aeroplan. Cause according to the rules your status stops when the card is closed.

I note this on the Star Alliance Rewards page:

In any qualification year, you may only claim status through a single Status Airline. If you change your Status Airline after you have claimed Star Alliance Silver or Star Alliance Gold Status, the change will only be effective for any status you may receive in the following qualification year.

I've currently nominated Krisflyer, my anniversary is February. If I switch to Aeroplan now (something you've been saying all along!), by the sentence I've bolded, do you think I'll get Aeroplan Gold through all next year? I would get Gold next year, except the card won't be around then to facilitate that.

This is my situation, well on track for re-qualifying and anniversary is next April

Just not Amex please as they hate many of us on AFF
As others have already mentioned, Amex is really the only player left in the Australian market these days that offer anything worthwhile or good. As with any product or industry in this country, there's only ever 1 or 2 genuine "players" in the market with no other competition or alternative

So HSBC closing down their retail bank. What's next for the Star alliance card. It was honestly a decent card and complemented will with my Qantas status. Hopefully another bank takes up the Star alliance brand.

Yikes. Does that mean a zero balance on the credit card before they shut it down in 18 months?

Presumably yes. I hope you are asking because you have just signed up to a good balance transfer deal! If not you probably shouldn't be holding a credit card...

Bugger, I was going to get my missus to apply for this card so that we could get all 4 of us to Lounges at HKG and SIN early next year whilst flying SQ Y (I already have a card).

The question is whether I should keep this card going forward, as my annual fee won't due until early next year. I will see if HSBC will announce any changes to this card post 1 October.

Don’t know the answer to your question but interestingly my friend has status with two airlines! They have Aeroplan gold for two years, and when they met the 30k spend they nominated KF silver. And then aeroplan gold when they hit the 48k.

They actually have status in both! The status on SQ is defo not from flying or spend!

Im *A Gold via Aeioplan for 2 years ending end of this year. Then cancel card ;)

Then +1 to apply for this card and keep *A Gold for 2 years via Aeroplan, then cancel.

Then I apply again....rinse and repeat!

But alas....
