EDR Targetted Bonus Point Promotions

My wife got this EDR offer 20 mins ago:

"unbeatable prices at Dan Murphy's for Australia Day"

Pass. I want points, not discounts!!

And now that Costco have announced their plans to push open more stores and to also launch (massive) fuel discounts, l'd say that there will be more (much more), fuel offers from WOW coming...

WOW/WES - Fuel Wars in the making???? Panic from Costco??

Lindsay, why pass on the 5.5% plus the 5% gift card at Dans. You need to talk to markis10 so that you save a bunch!

Cards will now be sent to your nominated postal address INACTIVATED. You will need to activate your Gift Card when you receive it, with the activation code included in your Tax Invoice and Activation email.
This totally changes the equation.

Not sure why someone did not mention this very important condition before. It now makes it worthwhile to order Wish cards online and get 5% discount and not have to worry about delivery going astray as the card is not activated.

Although a quick calculation reveals there is not much difference between 5% discount wish cards or purchasing directly from Woolworths and earning 2 points per $ on the purchase.

Purchasing a $500 wish card from Woolworths using Amex I receive 1,000 MR points which is valued at ~AUD20 possibly more depending on the redemption. With a Platinum Edge card one can earn 1,500 MR points for same transaction.

Purchasing a $500 wish card from RAA and the discount is AUD25. None of my Mastercards/Visas earn points.

Much of a muchness....

That's your problem, always handy to have a points earning Visa / Mastercard, if only for situations like these... Why don't you have the QEDRCC...?

In your example, For my $500 purchase at RAA I'm getting 475 QFF / $25 discount, for me this is a good deal, but I understand that others in here this is still "not enough"...

also

Purchasing a $500 wish card from Woolworths using Amex I receive 1,000 MR

What is the point of this, I assume you are giving them away as gifts etc., otherwise it is a pointless activity since you can just use your amex for the purchase of groceries etc....?

No need for alcohol at present. 3 dozen drinking red at home and 2 dozen at work for client giveaways. No spirits needed either :(

Not the right time yet for a Qantas Everyday Rewards credit card. I am in way too much debt and do not want to have a credit card that I could not use to launder balance transfers regularly.

Not a pointless activity.

I purchase $500 wish card for mum, I earn Amex 1000 MR points, she spends the Wish card and gives me the money back when she has spent the card and I eat for free. ;) I then buy another wish card and the cycle repeats.

I know it is embarassing at my age to eat for free from parents but the extra food mum cooks would go to waste if I was not eating it. ;)

Ok... update on Entertainment cards. I'm having a slowish morning so had time to check. I logged into the entertainment book site and tried a dummy booking for wish gift cards and can now confirm that Amex is a valid payment option for the wish cards only. It seems Coles/Kmart/Liquor and JB Hifi (to Jan 31 2013 only) are Visa and Mastercard only.... Not sure if that helps those Amex card holders....
So a 5% discount purchasing Wish cards online with Amex via the Entertainment books?

I got this email at 5pm yesterday:

"Fuel Alert! We've doubled your 4c per litre fuel discount to 8c"

Well at least that's something - no longer will I be getting 100 FFP's, it'll be 200 :D

But I'd still rather some bonus point offers, EDR.

And have all Caltex / WOW servos raised their base price by 4 cents to compensate?

And have all Caltex / WOW servos raised their base price by 4 cents to compensate?

I was thinking that yesterday, based on Coles offering 8¢ off for ages, I wondered if the Woolies servos had increased their prices to match the undiscounted Coles rate, or if there was a 4¢ gap.

As the price gets higher I just see the discount getting bigger, and we all end up paying the same ultimately.

Filled up the car today to take advantage of a 20c voucher before the price goes up sometime this week. Bought 2 jerry cans from Bunnings, before filling. Ended filling up 100l. So should get 1000 points soon.
3 jerry cans in the shed now with 75 odd litres of petrol. Looks like I won't need to fill up at the servo for a month or 2! :p
