I think that what it is saying is that the person is not issuing the ticket nor taking payment for the booking but is just making the booking through a discount location.

But seeing paypal is involved, and the level of 'arranging' involved, I can't see how this is any wiggle room from the Ebay conditions on selling travel.

I was not aware of Qantas offering tickets to wholesalers (without Travel Agency credentials). In addition, I wasn't even aware Qantas was offering any discount tickets except through certain high volume contracts (eg Corporate discounts, or packaged into tours or packaged with holidays as part of their offers).

I still think there is a corporate discount involved in this, and I still maintain that Qantas won't be happy with this and will chase the seller up and get Ebay to cancel the auctions.

I agree, it smells off to me.

I ran a travel agency for over 5 yrs and never once heard of a wholesaler dealing with a non-agent except in a full retail situation.

I'm staying right away from it myself.

I do not see why ebay would (or should) cancel the auction based on your belief that a 3rd party may not be happy with it and that you would have to demonstrate how the offering of such an item would be against the ebay term and conditions; if you are concerned, then the appropriate action should surely be to inform QF about the auction and allow them to take action if they want to

Dave

Is there not a clause in their T&R that restricts the sale of items such as this to individuals or organisations licenced to do so?

Perhaps, but why not just send the question to eBay/Qantas and let them make a decision on it? We can sit here and wonder if it is legit all we like, but at the end of the day it is an eBay and/or Qantas problem (or not)

I guess we could but then i'm not about to buy from him anyway, so case closed.

He could be selling flights in the coughpit jump seat for all I care, im not about to buy.

Hi Mate, I just sent you a private message regarding this post. Could you please give me a reply? Many thanks.

Indeed, the problem(s) if there are any would be

between the buyer and seller over whether the seller provides that which he claims that he will provide
between Qantas and the seller if he is in breach of any agreements they may have regarding these fares and
between Qantas and ebay if they have evidence that he is selling in such a way that is in breach of ebay regulations

There is no reason why ebay would or should act on unsubstantiated allegations from an unrelated 3rd party

It should be very clear from an earlier post I made regarding why the auctions are against eBay Terms and Conditions and liable for cancellation.

To repeat part of it:
"individual travelers or small operators such as sporting or social clubs can list on eBay, but may not list more then one trip per month."
If they are a travel agent, then there is material which must be included in the auction blurb - which isn't there.

There are three concurrent auctions up at the moment.

Ebay investigates complaints from people for a variety of reasons. They don't cancel auctions without cause, but it is actually quite easy to run foul of eBay auction rules. Someone complaining to eBay and pointing out the multiple auctions would have a high chance of getting the auctions cancelled.

I have never said in this thread that I've either reported it to eBay or think it should be cancelled. I have said that I believe Qantas will get it cancelled - big difference. (although my "will chase up the seller" might have been misread as "I will...").

I did read it as that you would chase it up , which is what it says gramatically iirc . :)

Makes more sense with the idea that QF would chase it up :)

Trust me, Qantas cares about their profit a *LOT* more than I care about theirs ;)

Plus of course, I don't have a law section on tap waiting for my next legal instructions...

Qantas does care about a lot of things other than profit. BTW, the legal team at Qantas is now investigating on this ebay auction.

A belated welcome, patrickshi to AFF. :D

Your posts indicate some inside knowledge of Qantas. It is generally accepted that Qantas peruse open fora on web sites such as this and, if you are indeed connected, it is good that you feel free to post.

Browsing through some of the questions posted to the auction reveals some real lack of knowledge and experience as a traveller or agent. Just look at some of the destination codes used  Now, where is DAR on the QF/JQ domestic route map?

Northwest of BRI.

I have reported this to eBay as a potentially fraudelent auction. Let's see what happens..

You mean Dar Es Salaam ISN'T part of the QF/JQ domestic network?!

What a shame! ;)

It would be interesting to know what the Qantas Legal team find out, if you are indeed privy to that information, or are provided with it.

PM is fine if public posting is not appropriate - just very curious to know the bigger picture.

I agree Qantas isn't just about maximising profit, but when people do things to subvert profit streams then they do get interested.

Well the set of auctions seem to have gone quiet now, with the last one being about a week ago.

I presume Qantas caught up with the seller and managed to convince them that reselling tix wasn't a good idea. Or of course, the seller just gave up due to the amount of work involved.

The seller is still a registered Ebayer, so I don't believe that they got into any big dramas with ebay etc.

It would appear we spoke too soon, he/she relisted their auction today on ebay

Business and Economy Qantas & JetStar tickets half$ - eBay Australia, Short Breaks, Travel, Tickets, Travel. (end time 01-Nov-07 08:20:21 AEDST)

As long as there are people willing to risk $200 to save a couple of dollars he/she will always have buyers.
