Earning Velocity points with BP

I have two BPs near me, I generally go to the easiest place to get fuel as I need it, provided it supplied 98 Octane.

Was at BP today and the guy at the till said that this comes into play next thursday.

2 points per litre is pretty miserable to the point that it would take over 75 refuels of a 45 L tank to make a one way ticket SYD-MEL trip.

I guess if you use a VFF branded CC it will help, but going to another Petrol supplier will net me ~105 points per refuel with my AMEX anyway.

Two points per litre compares reasonably with 2 points per litre at Woolworths/Caltex, and 4 cents per litre and 1/2 point per $1 at Coles/Shell.
I haven't seen anything to suggest that you cant use your Amex card at BP in conjunction with your Velocity card, so should earn points on each.

My nearest petrol outlet is a BP, but like all except one BP in the ACT, it sells E10 instead of my preferred 91RON non-E10. IME, E10 isn't priced low enough to compensate for the poorer fuel economy, and 95 and 98 are still overpriced, even with the slightly better fuel economy. Of course, YMMV.

The only time I've filled up at that one BP in the ACT was when Amex was running a statement credit promo, and I happened to be going near there anyway.

If it was 3 points I would have jumped ship but 2 points per $1 is of no interest to me when you can get Woolies petrol for 5% off and ALSO 2 Qantas points per $ (granted you need a Woolies $30 shop)

Fail VIRGIN

The bolded is disappointing. Dont reward your most loyal customers.

The idea, as with any marketing is to GAIN customers, not keep current ones!

Those with fleet cards will keep using the fleet cards

It's the Mum and Dad shoppers that BP want to gain

Totally agree, while I understand the complaint about not looking after loyal customers I really can't understand why people keep whinging about something that will never be changed. A far more effective approach (and dare I say rational) is to understand this fact and leverage it, i.e. take advantage of all the signon offers yourself. This is the only option which has a (sometimes very) positive outcome for the consumer, the other path just leads to perpetual dissapointment.

I only filled half the tank on Monday, with the hope this would kick in before I needed to refill.

I just found out that some BP/On the run in SA anyway, will now be my best friend.
It turns out that it does not have to be just fuel, to get 2 VR points per $1 spent, unlike EDR and Caltex Woolworths.
Ahhh... oh, has anyone been issued that swipe card we are supposed to use to put through the scanner at the counter, just before we pay?
Or does our VGW card suffice.
I have not been into a BP/OTR for a few days, (usually I just pay with the VGW and thats it-no bonus points-haven't been in since the twining started though).
Edit: come to think of you, if we pay with a credit card that earns VFF points, you would get 3 points per $1 spent. The 2 bonus and the 1 on that orignating $1 spent.
For me it would be 2.5.
Will test out this when I go to that BP/OTR next.

I have a BP across the road, although I usually make my NSW Opal Top Up at Woolworths, this could be handy in an emergency. Can't see in T &C's if they are excluded. Will try it out and report back.

I prefer to do my Opal top ups at Woolworths using 5% or 7.5% BigW eGiftcards which I've bought either through the Entertainment Book portal and earned 3MR/$1 with the Platinum Edge or through Groupon using the Citibank Signature card and earning 3 Citireward Points/$1 due to the payment being processed in Zurich. As well as earning QFF points with the EDR for amounts over $30.

Yes, that will always be my preferred option too, but for those times when we can't get to Woolies..... I will earn 2 MR points with Platinum Edge and 2 Velocity Points, if it's eligible.

I asked about it at a BP three days ago and was given a blank look. I declined the offer of 'just swipe your card anyway and see what happens' due to the fact my VA card has a chip for Pay And Go - would that not charge the actual bank account as well?

What is VR and VGW please?

Filled up at BP about an hour ago. Shop had signs everywhere regarding VA points and girl behind counter had a red shirt on.

Swipped card at prompt before paywaving and that is it.

Girl said I was the first today to actually swipe my card.

Does it use the mag-stripe or the barcode?

Reading the T&C appears LPG has also been included (or more specifically it isn't mentioned / excluded) - LPG is specifically excluded from EDR QFF.

Looks like my thirsty LPG powered 2nd car is going to see a bit more road time hereon :D

I filled up, and only had my old expired card with me. It worked.

Interestingly unlike WW Petrol who truncate the fractional litre and round down to the nearest whole, BP round up. I had a .66 litre and I was given two points for that fractional litre so BP seem to round up over the half litre mark.
