Earning QFF points with Kayo

In the June Qantas points balance e-mail there is a promotion for earning points by signing up to Kayo. You can get 1500 bonus points for signing up and then up to 150 points a month thereafter. It is for new customers only.

This annoys me. I have been with Kayo since inception so I'll get no points at all. I understand not getting sign on points but why not reward loyal customers on a monthly basis. Not a huge amount of points I know but I still find it unfair. I understand why they do it (to attract new business) but if you have an existing credit card you still earn points but you will miss out on any bonus points the bank may offer new customers.
 
Cancel and resubscribe to Kayo?
 
Simple economics really. I've heard this complaint many times but they offer incentives like this to new customers because they want more customers. There is a definite benefit (business case) to be made to do this because for money outlay they get a monetary benefit - i.e. more paying customers.

For existing customers its just a cost, you are already a customer so they get no more customers but they incur more cost in keeping you.
 
Looks like there's a "double bonus points" offer on at the moment - 2,000 sign-up bonus points with a basic plan ($25/month) and 3,000 points with a premium plan ($35/month).


Does anyone know how long you need to remain a member to be eligible for the bonus points? If I sign up for one month and cancel before the second payment goes through, would I still be eligible?

The email from QF says:

Cancelled subscriptions ineligible to earn points. Qantas Points will be credited to the member's account up to 10 days after receipt of payment.

So I think I'd be fine if I cancelled after ~29 days, but not sure what they mean by "cancelled subscriptions ineligible to earn points".

I'm interested in a subscription over the next month anyway to watch the cricket, but don't want to stay subscribed long term.

From my experience with them I would not waste time chasing the points and when you do get them it might be the right amount.

It took a few emails that went unanswered and about 3 months for my points to be credited and while the bonus points were correct the monthly points I was supposed to get did not credit at all.

I suspect that you would be fine once you get the points. They also have a 100/150 points per month subscribed part in the offer, which I think is the bit that stops when you cancel.
