Re: Earn 50,000 bonus Velocity Points and 150 Status Credits with Velocity Platinum A

The "missing" 50 SC arrived in my account this morning, which re-qualifies me for Gold !

I did purchase a BNE - SYD return flight back in December which will taken in late March.

The cost of that flight ($176.00) was included in my $500.00 spend. So no, you don't have to spend $500 with Virgin, just some of it.

Cheers
Dave.

Thanks for the info. Nothing in my account as yet but I only got the card last week.

Re: Earn 50,000 bonus Velocity Points and 150 Status Credits with Velocity Platinum A

Does anyone know whether buying a Carbon Offset for an existing flight would qualify as "spending with Virgin Australia" as required for the 150 status points?

Thank you,
SF

I wonder how they select who to offer this deal to...

I had an AMEX but closed the card around October last year.

I would sign up if I could get the 150 SC. I called AMEX and they wouldn't budge on letting me, they actually said I couldnt get the 50k cause I'd been a member in the last 12 months.

Ignoring the fact that you can't get the 150 SC and you really only want the points, one way to get around the fact that you were a previous AMEX card member is to have a family member sign up and when the points come through have the family member transfer them back to you.

It's a bit extreme but it's one way to get around the problem.

Yep I'm considering that. I think I want the SC's though. I'm going to sleep on it.

Previously I signed up for an AMEX promotion before the 31 dec 2012, it came with some points and I think 50 SC. I had to really fight to get the SC's from them. They said my application wasn't approved until post Dec 31 etc etc. They ended up giving them to me in about April, but it left me some what annoyed.

Surely you could set up family pooling and you'd get both SCs and points? If the other family member is eligible for the offer?

Apologies if this comment is out of context, I haven't read the whole thread...

We have family pooling. But none of us were sent the emial with the link to get the 150 SC....

no email = no 150 SC.
but anyone can get the 50k in velocity points.

Re: Earn 50,000 bonus Velocity Points and 150 Status Credits with Velocity Platinum A

Well I got my first bill - the exorbitant $349 annual fee! I guess that's what's paying for the SCs and points.
Still no points or SCs in the account.

Pity it's an AMEX card. You get slugged with additional fees with that one. Some merchants only charge a fee for AMEX and Diners but not Visa or MC. If they do charge for CC use they always charge more for AMEX and DC. And AMEX is still not universal is it? Better than DC though.

How did you go with this? Does anyone know the answer???

Re: Earn 50,000 bonus Velocity Points and 150 Status Credits with Velocity Platinum A

Strangely I activated my card as soon as I got it and selected my PIN (or Personal PIN Number as double tautologists would have it) but today got an email saying I hadn't activated my card yet.

I also received a new CBA MC recently, activated it and then a couple of weeks later received a text telling me to activate my card. What the hey?

Re: Earn 50,000 bonus Velocity Points and 150 Status Credits with Velocity Platinum A

Just looked at the email telling to activate my card (again) and I noticed this as one of the lures:
A complimentary return domestic economy flight on Virgin Australia between a wide range of Australian destinations, every year

Is that in addition to all the SCs and points bonuses?

Re: Earn 50,000 bonus Velocity Points and 150 Status Credits with Velocity Platinum A

Yes. Your annual fee is basically pre-payment for the flight you get.

Re: Earn 50,000 bonus Velocity Points and 150 Status Credits with Velocity Platinum A

I took this offer up when I received the email, gained my 50,000 VFF points, but as yet not received my 150 SC. I've activated the card, paid my yearly fee and purchased a Virgin flight. I've phoned Virgin 3 weeks ago and they said looks ok but as yet no SC's. How soon would you p/call again & would you do?
Thanks

Re: Earn 50,000 bonus Velocity Points and 150 Status Credits with Velocity Platinum A

They say to allow 6 - 8 weeks from qualifying to get the points, mine took a little less than this. I also emailed Amex who said it was Velocity's issues, funny thing that the SC's turned up a day later.....coincidence ?

Cheers
Dave.

Re: Earn 50,000 bonus Velocity Points and 150 Status Credits with Velocity Platinum A

I am in the same position. My qualifying spend was in my statement period Jan-Feb, statement is issued mid-Feb for me. Velocity Amex call centre said 3-5 days I think for the 50,000pts to show which they did but not the SC's even though on my Amex card online statement there is a little note "150sc" next to the qualifying transaction.
They advised to wait for next statement cycle but reading the above perhaps I should call or email Velocity Amex again?

Re: Earn 50,000 bonus Velocity Points and 150 Status Credits with Velocity Platinum A

I haven't received any points or SCs yet - had the card since early Jan and paid the annual fee but only just started using it in the past week - bought a Virgin flight and a QF flight on it - just to screw with their minds...

Same way I like to use my Woolworths card at Costco.

Re: Earn 50,000 bonus Velocity Points and 150 Status Credits with Velocity Platinum A

Well my SCs turned up in the last few days. There were three entries - "AMEX DE 2013 Nov-Dec Gold Status Credit Bonus" one for 50 SCs and another for 100 SCs. There was also an entry for "Amex Velocity Card Bonus Status Credits" with 0 SCs.

No points yet. However I only need 120 SCs to requalify for SG now so maybe I can work on my QF SG for a bit as I'm way behind without JASAs.
