I just received this via email:

Looks like we're back to the days of VA giving away SCs with credit cards...

The $349 p.a. was the catch for me. I guess the SCs are a big lure in a year where I might struggle to retain SG. 50 000 points is okay too I guess. Abu Dhabi though? I guess they picked the furthest you could fly on 50 000 points.

Hmmm. Should I add to my four credit cards? If only for one year.

So if you currently hold Amex but cancel it - is there a 'waiting period' before you become new does anybody know?

From VFF. It's described as an "Exclusive Bonus Offer" so maybe it's targeted?

edit: From the T&C - "Offer only available to new American Express Cardmembers who are the named recipient of this email"

Velocity Amex or Amex in general?

Sounds like a lame restriction if they are including general Amex card holders.

This looks tempting, especially as my wife needs 160 SC by end of March to reach Platinum with only TSV - BNE return trip planned, which would qualify for the SC.

    No e-mail offer received yet.

I haven't had an AMEX card in years so I guess it's a cheapish way to buy the SCs. But my anniversary is 10 months away and I need 340 more for SG?

Received offer of 15,000 points and 100 status credits on Velocity Gold Amex - $99 for the first year.

Shame I have a Plat Edge and am therefore ineligible! What a stupid offer! Stupid for having the other Amex card restriction and also because surely Velocity could only offer it to members without an Amex who are actually eligible!

    I also received this offer.

So if I have ANY other Amex I'm ineligible?

If so, what a hopeless offer. Attractive otherwise, but useless if you can't have another Amex prior.

Just wondering how this would work if you are already an existing AMEX card member:

Have your partner apply for the card with you as a secondary card holder.
Meet spending criteria to have the 50,000 bonus points credited to partner's velocity account.
Transfer points from partners velocity account to your own account (family pooling?)

Would have to consider the cost benefit of the membership fee to get the 50,000 bonus points. Also, if your partner is a secondary card holder to your own AMEX account would that prevent the partner taking up the offer?

Re: Earn 50,000 bonus Velocity Points and 150 Status Credits with Velocity Platinum A

I called today and clarified a couple of the T&C's on this offer.

    1. In regards to the "must be a new AMEX member" to redeem the 150 SC. I have had 3 AMEX corporate cards over the years with different employers including my current one and these don't count as I haven't been the primary cardholder. Which is good for me.

    2. The "must spend with Virgin Australia within the first 3 months" I sought clarification if this has to be a flight. Answer = As long its Virgin Australia on the receipt / Statement you have fulfilled the obligation. So a packet of nuts on a flight could be enough to qualify provided the statement says Virgin Australia, which on looking back through my history on board food does show as Virgin purchase.

    Cheers
    Dave.

Use the above mentioned link as detailed by Lizzie,
I'm of Silver Status, and I have been approved for the platinum card. I had also received the email for 15,000 points & 100SC.
I haven't had a previous Amex card, so I think it will be a good offer for me to take up.

Only thing is transactions in the air come up as "TRAVEL SERVICE FEES PTY LTD MELBOURNE VI" and don't earn points at the higer rate!

I had this same targeted offer last year, except about 30,000 points and 150 SC (as a SG at the time.). I already had the Plat Edge and got the points and SC no problems, but I don't recall seeing that comment about existing customers at the time.
