Anyone had any experience of the new J class in the E190s? Have they all been rolled out yet?
Heading to OOL on Saturday for get some last-minute SCs to requalify for Gold, but would like to experience a breakfast service in the J cabin. 6.25am is too early for me for the direct flight and I kinda like the idea of going via SYD to experience two J flights in one (I don't fly J very often, unfortunately), so I am going to go via SYD. It's either the 7am on a 738 or the 7.30am on an E190. I know it sounds silly, but I have a longish drive to the airport and the extra 30 minutes in bed on a Saturday moprning is enticing:D, but I am uncertain about the E190 J class (apart from having a 34" legroom instead of 38", which doesn't bother me too much for a MEL-SYD flight).
The SYD-OOL flight (at 11.30am) and the direct OOL-MEL flight at 1.45pm (hopefully a lunch service) are on 738s.
Either way, I am planning on doing a full trip report to evaluate the J experience from a n00b's perspective.

Thanks for the replies.
A trap for young players no doubt. So they are selling the MEL-SYD 7.30am flight as a J class flight, even after the kerfuffle (I am a Little Britain fan) of selling J class, but not providing it on the 737-700s?
I am glad I posted this thread. I will travel on the 7am service and get what I pay for even if it means getting up when most younguns are getting home.

I wouldn't say that you aren't getting what you pay for with the E190, it just isn't as good a product as the 738, or the A332 for that matter.

Fair point.
Either way, I am glad I asked as I can now actually book and get what I want, which is a proper J class experience.
Thanks again.

'Proper'? I hope you won't ever go to PER on VA's A330 services - it beats every other J product in Australia.

The 737-800's are still good too though ;-)

On the 190's, they are only selling 4 "J" seats on each flight until the reconfiguration.

You can only preallocate the window seat with the aisle remaining empty.

See here: (Virgin Australia - Domestic Business Class)
Embraer E190 Business Class seat features include:

  • Luxury leather
  • Two seats per row*
  • Generous recline
  • 34 inch (85cm) seat pitch
*Guests must be assigned a window seat for boarding. If you wish to change to another seat within Business Class, please check with the cabin crew on your flight.

On the contrary, I hope I DO go to PER on the A330.

I still cant believe this is acceptable, very amateur airline.. hang on this flight has this product, this flight doesnt, not very consistant me thinks!

Well, what about QF domestic Business?

734 is different from 73H is different from some other 73H is different from 332 is different from some other 332 ...

I am pretty sure I read somewhere there was 1 E190 flying around with the new J product... I am sure that post was on here!

Well catering on flight, no not on flight, at least QF "mainline" fleet, 763 a330 and 737 have business class, DJ 737700 and e-jet?

Interesting that you restrict to "mainline", conveniently lets you get avoid the 717's!

I actually prefer the E190. Quicker on/off. Less delays than the rest of the fleet. Plus you get a table next to you for the digiplayer and one for the meal. It feels spacious. My last flight they had the curtins drawn too - nice private cabin.

However, <2 hour flights only. 738 or a332 otherewise.

Qantas
A333
A332
B767 Domestic
B767 International
B738
B734

Now that's consistent product! But at least the food is better in J

True - but I don't think QF sell J class on their B717 services do they? I think a lot of posters here are focused on what is sold at what price vs what is actually delivered

Paying full J premium for QF 717? Not possible
Paying full J premium for DJ E190? Debateable
Paying full J premium for QF B734? Also debatable
Paying full J premium for DJ B737-700 PE seating? Subject to a lot of threads but DJ do offer compensation for a reason.

I think everyone would be happy if the price of the product reflected the actual quality of the product - and the quality of the product is undoubtably the result of the actual aircraft that you may be on.
