Due to simpler and fairer will you drop status?

How many status tiers will you fall?

From memory weren't the May 2005 enhancements more drastic?

Not in relation to status earn - in fact in 2005 the Zones changed such that SC earn generally increased.

For example, it went from 10 SC's for BNE-MEL in discount economy to 15SC's.

I have already started planning the cheapest, easiest way to retain Platinum. However, I think I will be back to Gold by the start of 2016. Not impressed, I only just achieved Platinum as they did the change over.

No problem retaining lowly PS, especially with a well place JASA. More upset that I won't hit SG next year with my AY flights, owing to the SC drop.

Currently Platinum
Will retain Platinum

No change here, as the VA offerings are still a joke (lounge/J/cancelled flights/onboard service)

HOWEVER: I will reconsider once the VA:SQ transfer ratio is announced

If it's 2:1, 1.5:1 or 1:1 (unlikely) I'll move all my domestic flying to VA as I value SQ points far far far higher than QF points

I'll happily endure VA service etc while knowing I am earning SQ points where I can claim a reward flight without having to book 11 months in advance or ringing to ask QF to release an award seat for me

I would have but thanks to a bonus status credits offer I will stay the same. Otherwise I would have drooped one level. They are making it harder for me to reach LTG. Still have 3000 to go.

Anyone on lower grade ie Bronze or Silver was aiming for Loyalty Bonus Tier1? Post Jul 14...
500SC to get 8000 QF FF?

Since they are re-set at the start of each new membership year a Bronze FF by definition couldn't get a loyalty bonus. This change was introduced in Dec 2011.
From July 2013 the SC have to be from QF flight numbers.

In essence I don't think any of the recent changes will have anything like the effect on loyalty bonuses that the two major changes above have had.

It started as every 450SC without resets or limits. Then changed it to every 500SC. Then they increased the point earn from 5000 to 8000, limited it to 4 per year. Now it's ~ flights only.

Thanks for the clarification :)
Yet more reason to question that the recent changes will have any real effect on the earning of these bonuses

FWIW, before "Loyalty Bonus" there were "Upgrade Credits" to be earned, initially every 250SC's and then out to 450 SC's ... they replaced paper Upgrade certificates ... which were granted at status (re/)qualifying, or could be purchased with points (for various zone based costs)..

It makes a big difference on RTW ticket. Amazing how all those code shares that they are supposed to have overseas don't seem to be available any more!

I have gone from gold to silver. I have some qp left from before had gold, so will see where I go from then, as no need to chase gold with MASA gone.

Wasn't the loyalty bonus for every 400 SCs at some point?

I miss the Upgrade Credits. I only just started flying again and managed to accrue enough (1 Upgrade credit?) for a one-way upgrade to business SYD-BNE.

Upgrade credits are (were) a great way to reward loyalty and much better than the 4 complimentary upgrades available with VA.

Will drop but that is due to virtually no flying. On a WP comp this year so hopefully a soft landing will occur.

I will retain WP, but it will cost me a bit more to do it (paying extra on JQ / QF fares for self-funded travel, for example). Most of my work flights are disc economy between east coast and Perth, so the distance means SC are pretty much the same, but inter-east coast capital city flights are not as good for me.

(Incidentally, not sure how generous QF will be with comp status in coming years... I requalified WP by 20SC on the last day of my QFF year this year, but there was a hiccup in the system that meant the points didn't hit my account in normal timeframe. A few days later and flight #1 of QFF 2014/15 and I had been bumped down to SG, despite RETAINING WP last year although I had fallen significantly further short of my re-qual points target. Not re-qualifying WP when 20SC short is a lot harsher than the Qantas of 2013!)

I'll likely drop from Gold to Silver, despite not reducing my travel that much. I was usually picking up between 30 and 50 status points return (depending on routing) but that has dropped to between 20 and 40. That might only seem a small drop but when you think that it was taking 20 flights to maintain (based on the 30/20 change) and now it's taking 30, that's a HUGE difference. Not only that, some of those previous flights were AWA awards too.

I'm sure that Gold and the associated QC membership does cost Qantas money, but the reason I always choose Qantas over the opposition (and pay more for my ticket) *is* because of the lounge access.

So yes, the "simpler and fairer" changes will, over time, reduce the amount of money I give to Qantas.

It's NOT Status Points.
Its Status Credits.
Loyalty Bonus at 500 SCs for 8000 FF points, if not chaseable annually are easy to get, but when they brought in 500 SCs to be collected in 12 months, irs hard, for a working dog.
Dont fly for business, so no Aquire thingo for me. ABN does exist though but I can't claim as I only have it for employment.

I've just dropped from Gold to Silver, most of my travel since April was SYD-PER at the "simpler and fairer" rate of 40 SC's for each discount Y return trip. Under the older "complicated and unfair" system I'd frequently score 80 SC's for discount Y return flights, but maintaining WG since the change has not been possible. Funny thing is, I've just changed employers and can now travel J regardless of flight duration or destination. The "simpler and fairer" changes made me feel little more than a nuisance to Qantas, such that I'm really reluctant to now send this bigger spend their way. I'm no where near attaining LTS let alone LTG, so there's no incentive there. Maybe once Joyce goes I'll reconsider, but I somehow doubt it.

Mongo, Discount Y was 40SC between PER-SYD return. I have a feeling you may have been booked into fare buckets that posted Full Y SC previously (which was a lot easier to do for domestic compared to international).
