Due to simpler and fairer will you drop status?

How many status tiers will you fall?

My Lifetime Gold status will not be affected by the new system, so I will be remaining the same status - unless my lifetime is due to expire soon

1/3 reduced status earn on my primary route says I should drop to QF gold. My known 1000 flights will provide a nominal 1000 SC not 1500SC, before factoring in other travel. (Real earn with other travel was 1600SC this year dropping to ~1100 @1/3 less). But I can trade off against VA platinum. Still haven't decided my plans yet. Either way I expect to drop to gold with one or the other program. If I do fly more with Qantas to retain Platinum, I don't expect to have to pay more per flight.

I haven't voted yet because I interpreted the poll to be asking if the changes will result in a change based on your usual travel. (As per above big change for me due to reduced earn) Whereas some of the early answers seemed to be along the lines of whether the changes will make people change travel patterns

It will and has affected my status.
What's worse for QFF is that it's also costing them my CC spend.

I wish Qantas would realise they are a marketing program and not an airline. Decisions would then be made with long term customer loyalty in mind and QFF would be incrementally more profitable.

I suspect that I will not fall this year, as I had some MASA flights sorted, but it will be a trial to re qual WP, I will almost certainly fall to Gold and maybe to Bronze by end of membership year in 2016. The upside for me is that I have Life time QP membership.....well at least for now !

I wouldn't say I dropped status - I merely redistributed it.

I'm now QF SG and VA WP. Before the enhancements started that was the other way around.

IIRC from when I checked a couple of months ago, if anything I would find it easier to retain WP. I mostly fly Y+ MEL-LHR and return for work. No flights planned and I'm 3 months into my membership year, so I may drop to SG, it won't be due to the 'enhancement' however. FWIW I think a flexi premium economy fair, often at almost twice the price of a flexi Y, should attract more status credits.

Today is the end of my membership year. Since October last year I have achieved exactly 2000 status credits - an all time record for me. But as only only 640 were on QF marketed flights and my flying pattern was higher than usual, it is quite likely that I will drop to Gold next year. But is that such a big deal? Since first achieving WP 4 years ago, the gradual erosion of benefits has been very disappointing. And as most of my flying is long haul J and at my own expense, I no longer see real value in remaining Platinum for the marginal improvements it bestows over and above Gold.

LTG is on the horizon and possibly only 2 or 3 years away. It's the only reason I am not transferring to BAEC. But I am realistic enough to realize it's another benefit that could vanish in another round of enhancements. Bottom line is I am still considering my options - but not for much longer as this is the time of year I start to make travel plans for the next 12 months. What is not a good sign for QFF is the fact that after next Thursday, my Manage My Booking screen will be empty for the first time in many years.

1 level soft landing this year which was already planned anyway after being based in HK I'd switched my earn across to CX as mandated by work.

Now being back in Oz on BFOD and a lot of domestic I have a feeling I'll be VA Plat before I'm QF Plat again...

I'll drop back to Gold next year. As I am no longer chasing status, having been weaned off by the philosophy of simpler and fairer, the fall would have been a lot more dramatic but for the LTG. I'm not prepared to manufacture travel, or pay more than I need to, to Qantas.

Or Qantas reinterprets your lifetime to make it simpler and fairer. :)

How? ........

A few years ago when QF did their first round of "enhancements" they did things like no longer allow PS's to use J check-in at dom, reduced luggage allowances, and I'm pretty sure there was a few other things in there as well. Most of this decision was "reversed" - aka an absolutely basket case of marketing (insert strong words here that would get me a holiday from AFF) speak "welcoming" PS's to use the J counter, within 6 months of the original "enhancement".

I would have dropped one level from QF Silver to Bronze but was comped and left as Silver.

For me it was not so much the simpler and fairer changes, it was just less Qantas flying generally, due to BFOD policy by my employer, which has not changed for years but several years ago I was 50/50 flying with VA and QF and now its more like 75/25 in VAs favour, maybe its just the times/routes that I fly on but less bum in seat time will eventually equal less status on Qantas. The amount of domestic flying I do (4 to 6 segmentd per month) easily puts me in VA Gold but would struggle to ever achieve more than Silver with Qantas (unless Qantas went all out and dropped their pricing to get our corporate business).

The easy earn and accumulation of VA status and points has modified my behaviour a bit over the last few years with most of my credit card spend and shopping patterns now swinging towards "foot in each camp" Amex Membership rewards and much less spending on Qantas related credit cards and more use of Virgin affiliated credit cards. Like a lot of people here I have been looking to burn off my points balance and relationship with Qantas by redeeming rather than engaging more in the Qantas ecosystem.

All the service changes over the past few years have caused me to drop from Platinum to (shortly) Bronze...

I would've spent quite a bit of money with Qantas to retain Gold next year, but with with the watering down of the scheme, I've decided it's not worth bothering with. So I won't be spending a penny with Qantas. I hope that's what they expected.

Spending much less, probably 2/3rds cut now from what it was 3 years ago. Status has been falling accordingly. The EY business offering is good value vs Q through to LHR and looks like it will only get better with the new aircraft coming into service. That said I hope the pricing does not change.

QF - Gold to Bronze after the end of next year.
VA - Red to Platinum mid next-year

Maybe these changes were good for me after all!
