Drive-By Pick-Up Penalty at Sydney International

Last week I picked up my cousin at the SYD T1 departures level. When i stopped to put the suitcase in the boot, a parking officer came over and said there were now fines for this ...but didn't issue one to me. Just received a $132 fine for "No Stopping" today. Seems to be a scam designed to force people into the expensive car park, the only other plausible thing I've heard is to improve security by not allowing general private vehicles near the terminal ...but then why are drop-offs allowed?

Am very interested to hear how others have dealt with this as there appears to be no option to elect a court hearing.

welcome to AFF 69daz

yes it's a scam, a big big scam, and us consumers won't do anything about it.

if they won't designate any pick up zones at T1, at least allow the first 15 minutes parking for FREE but noooooooooooooooooo the moment you take your ticket and drive in, its chaaaa ching $7.00 out of your pocket.

you know, i have tried it about 3 months ago where I drove from entry to exit without stopping and the cashier still wanted my $$$$$$ . she was insistent i pay, and i refused saying i was not accepting their t&c's, she gave in.

I got a fine when my wife picked me up from International in November 2008. I received the fine in the mail - the parking officer must have noted the number plate on the car.

I ignored the fine and haven't received any correspondence from them since.

They take your details off the CCTV footage, which I believe is not watermarked, making it ineligible for use in court.......

I have had 3 fines issued by SAC and have paid none and have never heard from them again.

Lucky? or SAC don't have the right to enforce the rules, I don't know.

Would the ACCC or Fair Trading please prosecute SACC for what they are trying - Misleading and Deceptive practices, and other - with respect to pickup - or clearly state their reasons for not acting. Willful, extortive practices, abuse of market power etc.
The NSW regulation has been discussed - and unless the regulation has been changed - there is no disinction for drop off or pick up - full stop.
In any case - regulation can be fought and contested.

This try-on has been extended to Canberra and Cairns, as well as the attempt to extort money off drive through carparks for those that do not accept the terms+Conditions.

Any journalist should get hold of one of these 'fines' and print it with legal comment. An easy beat-up for the 7PM timeslot. Clearly, if SACC or the monkey chimps running this scam are getting names and addresses under false pretences, this appears breach of privacy, and perhaps RTA must withdraw cooperation - is one line of thinking.
