Quick one folks. I know it's never for sure, but before I pull the trigger on a J booking to Europe just wanted to know if anyone has real insight into when the next DSC promo might drop. I can hold my reservation for ticketing for a little bit, but not willing to lose the booking given price escalations in the run-up to Christmas.

No idea on when the next promo would be, but word of warning re DCS eligibility based on how you've written your post about reservation vs ticketing.

The DSC is based on when your PNR is created (i.e. when your reservation is initially made which it sounds like you've already done) not when the trigger is pulled to ticket. So if you've already made a reservation (i.e. received a 6 digit PNR and can select seats etc), if a DSC promo does indeed happen, you would be required to create a new reservation within the DSC booking window to be eligible.

Thanks Fergo. Luckily I don't think there's a PNR yet, but honestly the chances of a promo dropping in the next week or so is limited. I just thought those who know more about the promos (or an insider) might have a nugget of info on dates.

Usually a DSC promo arrives just 3 days after you book a J to europe. Just give us the heads up when you pull the trigger so that we all ready for it!

There's often a DSC promo in the second half of the calendar year in say sometime in the next few months or so, but it can be targeted i.e. only open to those who receive an email invitation to take it up.

I hope they do do a DSC promo, but it remains to be seen whether it happens and who will be eligible for it if it does.

Typically there's only one broad DSC offer open to everyone and it's typically in February-March so there probably won't be one until next year.

In the 2nd half of the year it is not unheard of to see DSC offers to specific destination or personalised offers to certain frequent flyers.

All we need after this is to know when the next $500 J fares to NZ are on? 🤓

We are all waiting for that one person to make a huge J/F $ booking to a land far-far-away and behold, QF drops a DSC 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I remember in 2018/19, even early 2020 I cancelled and re-booked at least 6 Y international trips because QF decided to drop a DSC, right after I had paid for the 6 tickets. Luckily I had booked all in Flex Y, so it was easy to change.

On the topic that OP had queried - if my memory serves right, QF usually does a DSC in Feb/Mar and another in Sep/Oct ... some years we have had 3 DSC, most years 2 DSC promos. VA normally follows suite in Apr with a DSC. The Feb/Mar DSC usually is for everyone (meaning, not targeted) and the booking window is for 7 days from the launch of the promo, travel window up to the end of Feb next year. Following this suite QF had a promo Mar/Apr this year for QF flights ex-AU.

Then in 2018/19, QF also had this thing were one could "trigger" a DSC based on the searches & taking a booking up to the point of payment and then stop. The application then creates a temporary PNR which is on hold for 24 hours. AFter the 24 hour window, a DSC is "triggered" for the route searched or the source/destination.. I was able to successfully "trigger" DSC on a few occasions this way.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I would be that one person ($stupid about to be booked, but waiting just a bit to see if a D opens up on a sector with the expertflyer alert set!) Sadly, as I'd be travelling on EK metal, it seems I won't get the DSC. Sad, sad face.
