Double Points and DSC [Book by 8/9/17, fly by 6/9/18]

They may be A/B testing the DSC offer to understand the factors that encourage people to book informing better targeting of future offers. In which case, it will be totally random who they send the offer to.

I didn't get one.

If they don't do a global offer next year or target me they'll see a marked decrease in my QF spend, I think.

I've got a friend who didn't have much of a clue about status till I explained it. This friend had been a NB/PS with QANTAS Club membership for a long, long time and is now a WP and considering retaining that having got this offer.

Ditto, the only reason my partner made gold was that I engineered it. :p
Yep, and a few years ago I did the same for MrP and he has never budged from WP and now a LTG. It is MY turn now and achieved that last year. Now trying for this year, which is actually next year but I'm way ahead.

I got +50% SCs for booking between 30 August and 5 September, to fly by 28 December 2017.

I got this as well, and have in the past.

Can anyone tell me, as I forget, when awarded an odd number of SC (ie. 15, 25, 35), do they round up or down? Should I expect 7 or 8 for example on 15 SC.

Hi Sam,

They’ve rounded down on all of mine:

35 was 17
25 was 12
45 was 22

:(

This is a Double offer though. So 15 will be an additional 15 when credited.
But as noted above 50% would round down.

Well that's penny pinching right there.

A simple way to delight the customer. Round up the customers

instead this sort of guff is off-putting

I wouldn't consider you a marginal Platinum One. Far from it.

As far as I am concerned there isn't anyone who is a "marginal" P1 - the amount of hours or spend required denies that. (I know some people even in the P1 bracket are interstellar in their spend/travel, but seriously P1 is a bugger of an amount of hours in bloomin planes)

In any case, I got the promo, and to help the "team" (all of us AFF'ers), I took a day off to book a stack of 2018 travel - so hopefully that will make their analysis gurus say "wow - DSC offers are a great tool to induce spend" :)

Data points: am P1, my year ends December, I have about 2800 SC already flown or currently booked with QF, and more on other aitrlines that they do not know about yet, so maybe they were trying to entice me "over the line" even though not needed?

Thanks for "taking one for the team" juddles :)

If they'd given me a DSC offer I may have booked some spend at the pointy end that I could instead do in discount economy or in the case of long haul international could try to do on points.

Aww Shucks JohnK, but I think you're suffering from the same delusion that I had with TonyHancock the other day :D

Let me put it this way I don't buy full Y or fully Flex fares (well maybe one or two flex Y but more exception to rule). Mostly discount J. Very fortunate to do so.

And frankly had it not been for last year's DSC I wouldn't be P1 this year. I did do it "under my own steam" the 2 years prior, but I wasn't planning on it this year, but DSC helped get me over the line. For my next year(just started) even with DSC I probably won't make it.

Been enjoying my downtime at home tbh :)

Some things are more important at times.

In that case you'll drop back to being a high value WP compared with my "marginal" WP status. I mostly fly discount Y domestically, discount J on personal international long haul and upgradable Y where possible on international long haul for work, and I do status runs flying indirect in discount J domestically.

.... a high value WP ....

What is a high value WP? What is a high value P1?

To understand that you need to know what it costs them. I can guarantee that my cost to QF as a P1 is but one bottle of bubbly a year....

And whatever cost a rare "special hello" is from the crew. I use the same lounges as the WP. I eat very little because I have gown averse to lounges and airline food, even in J/F. I probably cost them les sin J or F than a person travelling on points.

How on earth can that be perceived as "marginal".

I was just about to book a flight to NZ on EK under QF flight number when I realized only on here that it's restricted to flights on actual Qantas metal. Puh, glad I came by here first! Would have not even thought of this, given it all came under the QF/EK partnership heading...

The discussions of "marginal" vs otherwise P1's is probably best made in the P1 thread(where it has been over the years... )..

all customers have a PCV "score" associated with them in terms of the "value" to QF... we know this. We also know someone buying discount Y tix is lower yielding than someone buying full fare F, even if they fly 50x the flights to qualify but it's a $ game.

Things like bonus SC offers (see, I'm staying on topic :) ) will lower one's "value" score by definition - we're paying less for the same return (in this case, SC earn and resulting status level) - but then again this is all by design of QF in offering these offers, so it's not like it's our "fault" for taking them up. It only really becomes an issue I guess for those that feel that "while all P1's are equal, some are more equal than others" holds true. My jury is out on that, but it is clear SC offers like that only really serve to either keep or increase the pool of elites for short term financial gain for QF (bookings).

This offer in it's weird dual application of points for all, yet some get the SC offer too, seems to be a new direction for QF. There's obviously an aim that is seemingly opaque to us as customers, but they would have their reasons. *shrug* I'll play the game.

You can fly on EK metal for double points. From the email:

So, for 5 days only earn double points when you book an eligible flight operated by Qantas or Emirates with a 'QF' flight number on your ticket, for travel between Australia or New Zealand and London (via Singapore, Dubai or Perth) or Europe (via Dubai), Singapore or Dubai

Status credits appear to be QF only though...you're right:

Double Status Credits offer. An Eligible Flight for the purpose of this promotion means any Qantas marketed and operated domestic or international flight where Status Credits are normally earned. Double Status Credits will not be earned on some fare types and booking classes including Classic Flight Rewards. See Airline Earning Tables for details. This offer is valid when you register and book an eligible domestic or international Qantas operated flight with a QF flight number between 12.01am (AEST) 4 September and 11.59pm (AEST) 8 September 2017 for travel between 18 September 2017 and 6 September 2018.
