If there any other benefit, other than the $3k saving? The reason I ask is I just priced up a return J ticket with QF/CX PER-CMB for around $7k pluss taxes. Seems like false economy to me. Spend 7 to save 3.

There is no need for a r/t to CMB if regularly going to be doing ATWs since they can just link onwards. If you can get an award or a cheap ticket there initially, then onwards the savings can be v good

Also, since the start point is Asia, when arriving into Australia 4 ( or up to 6 if extra segments purchased ) sectors can be flown within Australia/NZ without the restrictions which apply to continent of origin thereby adding addional benefits over the $3k saving per trip .

Thanks for that. I may look at a one-way J and stay on a DONE4 for ever. Anyone know the cost of an AONE4 out of CMB? If is cost effective like a DONE4? I may put the money saved into a class upgrade. Never paid for F (A) before :). Only flown F (Z) once on QF and I liked it :). People where a bit snobby though.

Ah, so the DONE4 is now about $7,450 and the AONE4 is about $12,500

:( Pushes the AONEx out a bit. But still the DONEx seems ok.

THanks odoherty.

Do you know the price for the purchase of extra sectors on a DONEx?

What location did you get this information from?

Oneworld Explorer published fare sheet

Won't find it on the Oneworld site. I tried to attach it but it says there is a 97kb limit - sorry

Hi v8,

I've just completed a DONE4 ex CMB; inclusive price for my itinerary in Aug last year was AUD8050. (SLR6000)

Depending upon routing a year later, it's about AUD500 more.

There's some more info on FT: The oneworld explorer ticket FAQs

As far as pricing goes, there an Excellent Excel (Is that tautoloy?) Spreadsheet provided by one wearybiztraveller giving contemporary pricing: xONEx pricing

For those interested in First Class, Vietnam appears to be an interesting option - particularly now that Jetstar will be flying there. Cheaper than Colombo and certainly easier to get to.

I travelled to CMB via SIN on a one-way award; QF to SIN and CX to CMB; did the turnaround on the same aircraft.

CX WHY service for this (then) sapphire was so convivial that the J trip back to HKG was more theraputic than anything else. :p

True, but don't count too heavily on savings of starting future RTWs ex-CMB indefinitely. I know lots of people who did so for ex-CAI RTWs who then had to pay for an expensive repositioning flight (either back home or to another cheap RTW origin) when prices went up considerably for ex-CAI RTWs.

It is true that CMB may not remain the cheapest, but should it change, then it would not be too difficult to use the ATW ticket in use to get to another Asian point should it be better value , or should Asia cease to be good value, just to dump the last part of the ATW ticket if necessary. I do think that Australia is unlikely to jump into being the cheaper than all of Asia

I can only see it as a risky issue if Australia is visited as the 1st continent after leaving Asia rather than the last

e.g. doing Asia-Europe-North America-SWP-Asia , the last SWP-Asia can always be dropped if necessary in the future whilst if doing something like Asia-SWP-North America-Europe-Asia would leave a possible expensive respositioning if fares rose too much

serfty,

Thanks for that. There is some good reading in there. I will re-read it again as I am sure I missed quite a bit.

Side note. Can a AUS TA book a DONE4 ex CMB?

They can, but they will have to charge the higher of the ex Australia or ex CMB fares and so you would be charged the Australian fare

To book ex-CMB at the Sri Lanka fare, the ticket must be issued in Sri Lanka

Be aware that squeezing F value out of an AONEx will take a fair bit of planning. Not every plane has a First cabin, and even when they do, such as American Airlines, a Business fare will get you into it anyway. Many shorter or less frequently travelled legs will be one-class flights. For instance, flying into Charleston on oneWorld means a little Embraer out of DFW. A lovely little bird, but short on luggage space and definitely very basic service.
