Domestic & International Seat Selection now has exit rows

re: Domestic & International Routes Seat Selection now includes exit rows

Confirmed this works for SGs on international J flights too, I was able to grab 16K on a 744, which I couldn't prior to the change...

I have gone through my bookings and most of them are not offering seat selection for every segment like they used to.

It is really buggy.

I am getting the "aisle/window preference" options, no ability to specific seats for flights that I had previously been able to select a seat.

Methinks this implementation will be withdrawn for review sooner rather than later.
These problems appear to have been rectified.

Maybe they've implemented an emergency release or there was an outage to another system that caused some problems .

re: Domestic & International Routes Seat Selection now includes exit rows

Has anyone worked out if Silvers can allocate the exits? (There will be some annoyed SG's and WP's I'm sure! ;))

It's kind of disappointing in a way ... I was SG for 5 years and the seating allocation didn't have much benefit (being row 11 and back on a 73x etc) as you still had to go online at T-80 to improve your position on the grid. I've been WP now for 2 weeks which I thought "great now I get the pick of the seating most of the time" and then they go and do this!

Re: Exit row/premium seating - Oneworld airlines

Ok it's working for me now too - must have been a gremlin in the system for a moment there.

Now in row 13 ... but will try for row 4 at T-80.

Why row 13? I thought the first exit row seats, in aircraft with 2 adorning exit rows, has the tilt back disabled? I normally go for row 14 as the seat tilt back is not disabled.

Word must be getting around as the exit rows on my Adl/Mel tomorrow morning are going quick.

Thumbs up to WP having this ability.

Thumbs down to the widening ability of others to pre-select seats (that I may want).

 Very selfish I know.

Of course I will revisit the issue when I'm no longer platinum :)

They unlock the seats after take off (there is a little "switch" under rows 12 & 13).

But it's a 2 hour flight so I'm unlikely to put the seat back anyway.

Having just hit Platinum I agree! (But previously as gold I disagree with you!) Ah the grass is always greener... ;)

Great option for tall people. I'm 6'9" and require exit seats as it is almost impossible to sit down normally in economy.

Just checked my SYD-DRW flight for next weekend, no exit row seats available. QC Bronze only.

Was able to book exit row on BKK-SYD in May though. Better piece of mind than the old 7 day rule.

First post - thank you for your posts everyone, very enjoyable way of spending down time in my day.

I feel short now at 6'3"!! ;)

Do we need to run a poll to find the tallest AFF'er? I think you'd come close to winning!

I'm also 6'9"! Only Bronze though, so hopefully I'm also able to select exit row seats (no flights coming up at the moment).

I'm 6'3"as well. Is this true? I'm WP. Who do I need to talk to?

BTW it now seems WPs and SGs can pre book domestic exit row seats. I just did so for Adl/Mel/Adl flight in mid April

Greg

It seems to me that you have two options.

  1. Ring QF and ask if you are able to have it put on your profile and/or
  2. Accept the new availability option for exit rows and get in there early and allocate them yourself.
See Domestic Seat Selection now includes exit rows.

I have had a permanent note in my profile since I joined QFF over 10 years ago (noting I'm 6'9" and prefer an exit row seat), however my understanding is that this requires someone to look at the note and given Altea allocates seats without human intervention, it's only helpful when I check-in and then it's obvious anyway (I often get offered an exit row seat without asking). For the record, I've always been Bronze.

One interesting thing that you don't see. On international flights, Qantas will no longer be automatically assigning seats at the time of booking. You need to do a request after booking, and will be either $20 or free for eligible customers

Advance Seat Selection is free for the following passengers:

  • All domestic customers
  • Platinum, Gold or Silver Qantas Frequent Flyers or equivalent oneworld Frequent Flyers at the time of the seat selection, and any other passengers included on their booking.
  • Passengers in First, Business or Premium Economy Class international cabins, and any other passengers included on their booking.
  • Passengers with special needs.
For all other customers on international flights, it is available at AUD$20 per sector.

Or if you just request Aisle or Window is still free i'm assuming.. To get an actual seat number is the $20.

The person who flys once or twice a year is really going to start to notice the difference in service etc, and will need to rely on more than just luck to get a good seat!

re: Domestic & International Routes Seat Selection now includes exit rows

I have a couple of BNE-MEL-BNE flights in May and June on 737-400 and 737-800 aircraft and it has allowed me to select exit row seating on all sectors/aircraft type as an SG.:D
I was also able to select exit rows (as SG) on my PER-ADL-PER flights this Sunday and Tuesday (B738 both ways). Row 13 in both cases with a "^" next to seat number indicating that it's a request. I have never requested exit rows before, when will I know that it's been 'approved'? Is that at OLCI time?

In what way?

I see this a good thing for those once or twice a year travellers. Gives them more choice compared to aisle or window request.

re: Domestic & International Routes Seat Selection now includes exit rows

To get an actual seat number is the $20.

I wonder if this may start to create a few problems (and potential opportunities:cool:). As we all know at the moment, seating allocation is never guaranteed, and could be changed for any operational or other reason. Now that they are charging, then contractually there is probably a need to deliver on the service - i.e. the seat number. At the very least, if there is a change, the charge would need to be refunded, but there are could be all sorts of interesting repercussions (and opportunities) especially for those who may want to fly on a particular aircraft type.

If a charge was made for a particular seat on an A380, then a substitution to a 747 could give rise to the right to a refund for the entire fare - regardless of the terms and conditions of the ticket, as the explicit charge for the allocated seat may well invalidate some of those T&Cs. Could be an interesting test case.

re: Domestic & International Routes Seat Selection now includes exit rows

NB here!

I have 4 flights booked in July. All are B738. PER-xADL-MEL-xADL-PER

Can select 19-26 inclusive. Have done so for all flights (19ABC for all 3 pax on the booking) and it's appearing confirmed etc, no charge.

re: Domestic & International Routes Seat Selection now includes exit rows

Couldn't really see many problems with it. I think refunds can be made if seat selections get changed based on operational reasons/restrictions..

Pretty sure BA have done this for a while too?

Along with JQ who charges for their JS Lite product.

re: Domestic & International Routes Seat Selection now includes exit rows

So for those SG, PS, and NB members - can you select seats further forward than were previously available or has this remained unchanged?

On international flights does paying the additional $20 give you bulkhead seats at the front of Y?

I'm guessing not for both questions but would like to know.

edit: Must...Fly! read my mind and answered the NB part of the question before I could post!!

In many ways, the need to pay to select a particular seat, QF has been one of the last airlines in the world to provide this facility and now requires payment for non status passengers, and when the pax get to the airport they will notice the lack of staff thanks to NGCI, and if their bags are overweight its pay up time buddy (which is often the case with infrequent flyers).

If you have not flown for a few years, you would be in for significant culture shock.
