I think the thing here is that people might be confusing airline/hotel status with actual status. Ultimately, the "status" afforded people here are subject to rules (or the whims) of a commercial enterprise who is trying to convince you to spend more of your (or your company's) money with them, thereby improving their profits. This has very little to do with someone's status as a person.

It was mentioned on these threads previously, but people that go hunting status with hotels and airlines in an attempt to make themselves sound more important to other people come out looking very much like "Barton" on a date with Patty the Plain Plump Spinster: Date 2 – come fly with me « Patty the Plain Plump Spinster

We here on the forums revere WP, WP1, CL or things like AA Concierge Key. But the rest of the world doesn't, and for them, when we insist on telling them about how important we are, we look arrogant. Take this passage from that blog post:

“Yes, I’m a frequent flyer. Platinum with Qantas and Virgin and I have Admiral Club and Centurian, and Diamond on other airlines. They greet me by name on eight different airlines you know. I fly every week. One of their most important customers.”

I cringe when I read that, every time.

I think, for me, my airline/hotel "statuses" are a means to an end - I consider them good value - I pay a bit more, but I get a lot more out of them. But I'm not a better person for having them.

What makes me unique or special are other, more untangible things. And that's where I derive my personal sense of confidence that I am a good person. Not from my hotel and airline elite statuses.

I was once labelled arrogant - in fact it was in an email I received from my USA distributor shortly after I ended our relationship - he said and I quote - "you are arrogant, deceitful and dishonest".

I showed it to Cruiserette - she said this is an incorrect statement - he left out immoral.

Back in my Uni days on more than 1 occasion I was called Rude,Crude and Uncouth or words to that effect.I took it as a compliment as that virtually rules out being arrogant.

back to the original question... I think new money can make some people arrogant. People with old money displaying the same characteristics are just thought of as eccentric.

I think Lindsay Wilson has now shared a little part of how things are for me!!

There is a SMALL amount of arrogance.... But it is more... An EXPECTATION.

It's just how it is.

Well said......not much left to say really

If I am paying for a premium product I expect a premium product and service.

So if I am on QF which is a premium product I expect premium service but if I am on J* i don't expect anything close to what I get on QF.

So IMHO money does make you a bit arrogant but your expectation of what you demand for yourself and those around you.

I get called by my name on QF if I'm in J and/or I'm at the very least WP or above, and with some luck coming my way.

I get called by my name on 3K simply buy purchasing a plus bundle.

This argument has been going on for a long time.A quote in the book I am reading that comes from Solon~600BC-a Greek philosopher, economist, poet and politician-
"Some wicked men are rich, some good are poor;
We will not change our virtue for their store:
Virtue's a thing that none can take away,
But money changes owners all the day"

I think there is also a distinction between arrogance and being just plain rude... But that's O/T :)

It's neither money nor status that makes me arrogant. It's because I'm blonde, 6' tall, and hot.

OMG. Exactly like me..except i'm Grey, 5'1, luke warm (and fat).

On the topic of treating all people with good manners regardless of any real or perceived "status", I recently flew from TSV and was waiting outside the QP with 5 or so others prior to opening, a couple who said g'day. When the doors opened, I waited to let the others go through in front as I wanted to check in. Approached the desk and said: "good morning, how are you?". Lounge lady said "Sir you are the first and only person who has said that to me today". Given the others in front were all at least double my age and in suits, I was surprised. Given exit rows without asking (as NB) and am averaging 90% over 3 years with manners being the only key. Smiles and manners cost nothing, but often pay dividends.

The girls at TSV QP are all really nice, Especially Melanie.

Should would have to be one of the best lounge Angels I have ever struck.

She has gone out of her way to accommodate bookings and also has rang me and said I noticed your on the late flight out of TSV tonight and it has been delayed would you like the earlier flight which is delayed but it will still get you back to BNE at a decent time.

I would echo this, not sure of names because I rarely look up to catch the name tag or a face, but have received wonderful service in TSV.

Earlier this year I was on a SC run and was scheduled on the last flight out, but arrived before lunch. Asked if it was possible to change and was put on an earlier flight, then asked for recommendations for lunch and ended up having a lovely lunch on the esplanade before coming back to the airport and heading home.



Townsville girls are great. Slight disappointment that I let one get away. :(
