Do you pay for full-price business class tickets?

I haven't paid for QFd J. In retirement we will be flying QFd J but only when we can get AA awards.

I have paid quite a few times for International J. In the old days a DONE 4 or a Circle Asia fare.

I did however regularly buy return J fares on JAL BNE-JFK. QF at the time was usually 13K return, JAL 6K. But most of the tickets were bought when they had a 2 for 1 sale for seniors. A no brainer. A bonus was JAL left BNE 1 hour later than QF and arrived into JFK 1 hour earlier than QF and no LAX transit.

Now when BA has a sale on it's SYD-BKK fare basically allowing a Circle Asia trip I pay for F. Still cheaper than the QF Circle Asia J fare.

do you ever pay the advertised price for business class tickets?

Innumerable times. But neary always the advertised sale price. I may have even paid full tote one or twice - after 1,300+ sectors, 1/3 in J over 40 years or so, who can remember?

I have paid the 'rack rate' for RTW business on OW and *A many times too.

Although the thread is about full price J, in the past I have also paid for QF code shares in EK F that were cheaper than QF J. These were 5th freedom routes mainly MEL-SIN and SYD-CHC and sure a reduction in QF points and no SCs. I knew this at the time of booking however did not care as my status was already locked in or would be retained through normal travel.

I’ve paid for QFi J direct from QF.com but it was when I was working overseas they had some great deals out of Europe.

QFd J our work gets excellent fares and rebates from QF, we are allowed to use the special fare rate for personal use and I have a couple of times but for personal use we only get the fare discount, not the rebated - but it’s still very good.
I remember the days when QF had very cheap F fares from the EU - fly BA to LHR, and then pick up the QF flight to SIN/BKK/HKG.

About £2500 pounds ex Germany back in 2007/2008. Bargain compared to the domestic J prices quoted here!

No, but my boss did (Fed public service whwre trip needed to be > 1,600) even though we had a quibble about it. THE deal done was Y one way on a Saturday J homewards total price less than VA J ....

can live with the J fare sales pricing and this was to do with strict budgeting (yknow inconvenience of mortgages, child support and taxes) which didn’t particularly leave unlimited funds for play. (Different now with most of them finished or reduced) and then Covid came

I have never paid the full price for QFd in J. Where I have the time, I will check EF for flights with U (although that has become harder recently) and then book in discount Y and apply for an instant upgrade. Otherwise, I just enter the upgrade lottery.

As a point of reference the ICC T20 cup cricket matches (3 rounds and a semi-final) tix for 2 saw no change out of a full fare J class Adelaide-Sydney.

Hate to think what the price of the GF Is. Cricket cashing in on a day where Langer lingers no longer.

A mate who travels a lot maintains that no one he knows travels QFd by choice, but of more relevance is how he's only ever bid for an upgrade five times and has allegedly always been successful at the lowest possible rate.

So he claims he travels one way say MEL-SYD (including the $100) for $350 or under business class on QF.

I have only ever once paid for J, and that was for the Mrs and I from AKL-SYD on EK.
The only other time I have flown J and it was a paid seat it was on a government rate, so it was at whatever rate QF sells J to government.

Every other time has either been J Award, J Upgrade or better still the OpUp.

$8,000 might be a bit exy for OWE I think.

I often get it for <$4,000 with BAEC. UL and QR come to mind.
