DJ to "Spin Off" Velocity [not really, simply a separate internal unit]

Sure, but that does not mean by default that the unit in question thats moved becomes more profitable at the expense of the customer, some times its done to identify what its been hiding, such as a less than profitable airline, again QF is a case in point for its international arm.

I think he means.....

3M members - if you could get each of those members to spend/shop/earn in a way that generates another $2 per member.......

Not necessarily, it depends on whether they change their accounting to show a margin on earn as well as burn, on earn means the banks and commercial customers become the profit centre as well as the punters.

Fair point.

+ 1 simo, my thoughts exactly. From my experience, it took a while for me to embrace VA, but not Optus - I was onboard from Day 1.

I could never put VA in the same boat as Optus, thats an insult to VA.

Optus are not innovators or ahead on anything, we recently ditched all mobile services and went back to the big T

I wonder how his mobile reception was down there? Or his Big Pond wireless access?

I am not trying to go off topic.

Myself working in Telco world Generally VHA or Optus launch a product and then Telstra will launch it as well but it will be a little bit different and it will also cost a bit more as well.

In current times VHA launched pre paid cap plans and then Optus did and now Telstra has launched them as well.

I hope VA keeps different.

I see QF a lot like Telstra.

Telstra is the market leader in volume but not the best innovator in the market.

I see VA a lot like Optus or Voda as they are pushing products and services into the market but sometimes don't get it as right as could be possibly done.

I'm not sure DJ would want to seen as like Voda with all their customer and product delivery problems

DJ (the airline) is certainly a long way from that point, in my opinion. But Velocity is definitely there - check the number of complaints on this website alone for missing / ridiculously delayed points crediting and difficulty with phone staff even for those who wait out the eight week period for some partners to post points.

Agreed.

But won't separating Velocity give it the focus it desperately needs?

I doubt it.

Every program I am in has these issues. Qantas has trouble making its restaurant program work, Priority Club has issues getting its own hotels to post as Qualifying stays etc etc. No one else has solved the problem!

I only hope that after the separation they see the benefits of merging the 2 websites.
