Disgusting treatment of facilities by J PAX in Melbourne

Just to add fuel to the fire, how good are the cleaning staff, I have seen similar in lounges, simply because the staff would not come and collect.. Not that I'm condoning pigs in lounges, but maybe there are other factors... If cleaners are good, then theses people re disgraceful. Also re the waste, I can never understand why people take so much more than they want/need, it only costs everyone more in the long run

Or perhaps it was someone who used a double SC promotion to get OWE, or a FIFO flyer, or a platinum one suit who flies 5,000SCs a year..... A bit of a generalisation IMHO.

Just look at the way they've left the cutlery too! In all directions. No manners.

While I agree the mess left behind is very poor form. Not appropriate to assume this was left by any category of traveller.

You look at food courts today and the amount of people who are too lazy too put their waste in the bin and expect the cleaners to do it for them is a good sign of general attitudes.

The last few times I have been through the MEL J lounge I have asked the lounge dragons to send a cleaner to where I was sitting. On almost every occasion it has been the mobile free zone, directly behind said dragons.

As the area can accommodate larger groups it tends to be used by families and large corporate groups. Perhaps the cleaners are simply forgetting to clean this area? Certainly during my 30-60mins there, the cleaner never returned.

Not surprised. It's not uncommon to see planes much worse than this. Used nappies etc in the seat pockets.

If you wouldn't do it at home, why is it acceptable anywhere else?
You don't do it at because you have to clean it!

You just can never tell of people's standards by looking at them. Some of the slickest dressing and organised people I know, live in absolutely disgusting filth at home
My room in Brisbane in filthy. My bedroom in Sydney is worse than flithy.

I have no reason to behave that way in public....

Well John you must be exception to the rule! But on a serious note, when I mean disgusting filth...I mean...carpets with dog urine that haven't been steam cleaned in 20 years, people that don't shower, there isn't even a place to sit down as the entire house has old food lying everywhere rotten...I've seen some shockers!
But if you'd care to take a pic, I'm guaranteeing with what I've seen the way people behave..you would prob be up for Man of the Year :)

Must have been a group of Virgin status-matched Plats abusing their ATA.

Oh wait...

They have security cameras in there? Would be appropriate that the passengers identified and a letter sent I think. I'm always fairly tidy and bus my own plates to the trolley sometimes, so I don't understand why anyone would treat the area like that, but my first thought was kids (and bad parents).



The cameras would need to be on and the viewer able to recognise all the subjects, doesn't/won't happen.

I agree it's more than likely a family, and disagree with the general thread thoughts that you should expect a better sort of person just because they fly a lot, reality time and time again proves that not to be the case in all sorts of scenarios, frequent flyers come from all walks of life, with varying moral standards.

It looks like this group has been surprised by an urgent boarding call and left in a hurry. They may have missed the initial boarding announcement.

For clarification:

the rubbish on the floor is medical waste - it does not matter what spin is placed on it about cleaners etc, the point I am making is that it is there, additionally

1. I* don't think they are a regular travelers because regular travelers tend to look after their inner sanctums and would pick up their cough after themselves (there's always an exception)

2. Why should it be the responsibility of the QP staff to pick up your bandaid packaging from the floor? As it stood, the QF staff had the table cleaner clean up the table mess, then the cleaning staff come in as I was leaving

3. Is this acceptable in ANYONE'S EYES?

*I - me, my thoughts, my beliefs, my morals

Perhaps the "medical waste" is a clue to the context surrounding the events, would it be acceptable to wait for someone to clean up after themselves while a child had a cut hand that needed urgent treatment? I am not excusing what I see, only suggesting that without the facts, what lead to the mess etc, we can only guess and not pass judgement.

you are creating a scenario which wasn't there

the people were pigs who thought it was OK to leave a mess for others to clean up, through and through. Constructing a defense for the unknown vs the known (what was photographed) is kind of pointless. There's nothing in the photograph that remotely suggests kids being there, anyone being cut or similar. In fact the photo shows to me a group of 2 possibly 3 adults.

Most likely scenario of HOW THE MESS GOT THERE in my mind is a lady upturned her handbag by mistake and spilled the mess on the floor? I know less melodramatic than amputation of limbs by 3 year olds on an ultra sharp newspaper edge, but I'm thinking more likely.

The point of the post is not HOW it happened, but WHAT had happened.

I also understand that you are not excusing what you see, you and I have previously touched on the subject over a beer. :)

Obviously some see fit to pass judgement on what they see and not the facts behind it, so be it. I would not pass such judgement, preferring to give the benefit of the doubt, that goes for both the originators of the mess and the fact it's still there after they have moved on. Was it bought to the attention of the lounge manager who perhaps might have been able to fill in some gaps??

You seem very passionate about the clearing of tables in the J lounge. What's your views on world nuclear proliferation?

I agree that the pic is a total mess and no-one should leave a mess like that in a public lounge regardless if someone is there to clean it up or not.

However I disagree about the comment that a OWE wouldn't treat the facilities like that, I beg to differ, due to my companies travel policy of VA only, only my personal flying is with QF/OW at the moment, as such I am a QP Silver.
On occasion I fly QF J (paid & sometimes points) short haul, and use the Business lounge, however am very clean and would never leave an area like that.
I have seen more than my fair share of WP's, SG's and DYKWIA's (identified by Q-Tags) in the J lounge making a ripe old mess, I saw one guy(WP) near me with a piece of toast on his plate and he dropped it on the way back to his seat, he didn't pick it up and then proceeded back to the breakfast bar to get another piece of toast.
I overheard his GF/wife telling him off when he got back saying "You should have picked that up" he replied to her: "Why should I, that's what the cleaning staff are paid for".

So just goes to show that anyone at any level can be a pig.

Obviously you have not read the entire thread - the rant is about the <mess that was left> on the floor

I couldn't agree more, my comments regarding who the culprits were is probably unfounded, but the body of my post is about WHAT not WHOM
