You can also get some status run inspiration from this AFF article:

OWS (Sapphire) is where it’s at. There are so many more benifits than Qantas Club. Especially if you are based in SIN you’re more likely to be flying with non-QF ow airlines (MH, CX, BA etc). Qantas club won’t help you at all flying those airlines.

But yes, if you’re doing a status run for more than 10-20% of your desired tier requirement, you’re probably not flying enough to benefit from it once you earn it.

Hence I said QP membership AND PP membership and still less expensive. Or if not based in AU, just get PP lounge membership.

I fly a lot for work but it's all economy of discount economy fares, so it's never quite enough to get the status. So I need to top up a bit. It really makes a difference to have the perks. The priority check-in is a lifesaver when running late from a meeting, and the bags when needing to get out quickly. (And of course the showers after a long day before the flights). It makes travel that much more enjoyable.

OW ruby (ie QF silver) is sufficient to get you J check-in.

There’s much more to elite status than lounge access and priority check in.

Relatively new to the bonus status credits thing - how soon did the status credits land in your account typically after the flight? The T&C states 6 weeks

The ordinary SC may be in your account prior to wheels up.

For DSC, add a couple of days, from my experience. However, it can be much longer if there are any glitches with crediting (requiring manual intervention). 😀

So, allow for the six weeks.

For the last personalised DSC promo, the bonus SC landed the next day after the qualifying flight so its quite quick. IIRC, QF used to do a 'sweep' of qualifying flights once a week and deposit the bonus SCs.

In my experience DSC enter into the account less than 5 days after the flight but that's booking with the airline. Does anyone know how long it usually takes when booking through a travel agent?

I need my DSC to go into the account in 11 days or less after the flight.

QF have a business class sale from OZ east coast cities to various NZ cities but for some reason I'm not seeing any of the sale fares when I try to book - they aren't even showing as "no seats" - is anyone else having this problem or have I stuffed up filter settings somehow?

I had a similar issue when looking in early March. Spoke to qantas via the app and they said no sale fares were left

Should be the same regardless of how you book. All mine are doing through a corporate travel portal and post as quick as mentioned above. The only caveat I would add is that the first lot (i.e. when the eligible period begins) can take a little longer. The time of posting is irrelevant though as they will be applied based on fly date not posting date.

QF have J Class NZ sale that fits nicely into DSC promotion - fare from DRW to AKL (via MEL or SYD) was around $1166 each way.

I found it cheaper (approx $300) to make 2 separate bookings:

$1,166 DRW-SYD-AKL (160 SC)
$799 AKL-SYD-DRW (160 SC)

$1,965 for 640 SC = $3.07/credit

If you originate out of AKL - theres benefit to be had....

As it has to be QF metal eh, maybe int J to the US.
Silver to Gold easy.
Bronze to Gold do able but not cheap.
QF does not use Red, VA only.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Make sure it is financially sensible.

Spending $2,000+ to go from Bronze to Gold only to use your Gold membership a couple of times over the next membership year rarely makes financial sense. One exception is, of course, if your travel patterns are about to dramatically change.

The other thing is timing when you do it. Say your membership year ends in March. If you did the status run in April to get Gold you’d have Gold locked in for nearly two years.

Yes I know right, travel pattern will be changing in coming months.

Question about eligible flights - are Qantaslink flights eligible in this offer? The T&Cs don't mention Qantaslink specifically - what do you guys think? Does Qantaslink count as Qantas metal?

Might be useful to consider cost effective solutions.

Business to the USA is not cost effective. 180 status for $6000 to LA, compared to about $2000 for 205 status credits to Bali. The US option is 3 times the cost for less status credits, but at least it would get gold.

For random dates in April

Thanks for the tip. That is quite true, hence why I am looking for the cheapest option.
