I'm going to end the year on 1397.5 status credits. So close but so far.....
I'm wondering if adding a comfort seat to an existing BNE-SYD booking would work to get me over the line ?
Is that something you could buy for just one way of the return booking?
Is youy BNE SYD a saver fare, if so , how much to change it to a Flexi for an additional 10 SC's?

Oh noooo, defo worth doing something to to fall over the line ... Even if say Syd-CBR or say JQ WITH. bundle to Gold Coast or Ballina and then bus from there to Gold Coast or BNE OR some QantasLink ex-BNE - getting that close its thoroughly worth the small effort to achieve P. Even the extra points earns as a P more than adequately compensate for spending. Say $130

Yes, comfort seat will get you over the line.
I have done comfort seat ADL - SYD - WLG - MEL - ADL last year and got my own FF points and SC, and also "my other friend-ie, the comfort "person's" FF points and SC as well.
You have the choice of either one way or return, up to you, only thing is that buying a comfort seat has to be done by phone to 131313.
If you have already got a booking, they have to cancel that booking, and refund you the $, and make a new booking for you and your "shadow/invisible friend".
You can't just add comfort seat to a current booking.
If you have not yet made the booking, then telephone 131313 and tell them you want a comfort seat request, and they will do the booking for you.

I gather re-positioning flights to take advantage of the $1/SC don't count in the cost ?

I do notice they seem to now al be under $999 return ex-Aust to both USA and Asia

Ideally a positioning flight is not required because your structure something you are already going to do, eg a business trip, to have the 2-3 days needed to do it. If you are really desperate, do it in Y or with a low cost carrier.

I am looking forward to them upgrading the planes to HNL as it is cheaper to fly there then to US, also doubles as great status run starting point.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

IMO ratio's posted here are with regard to the actual run only, nothing to do with any positioning. The positioning factor comes into account for the individual but here we are talking about availability for everyone between point A and point B, not every single individuals specific requirements of getting to point A.

So no, the positioning has nothing to do with status runs posted in this thread, or any thread, IMO.

Which is precisely what I wrote. However, you're first comment was that positioning is not part of the equation. I'm simply pointing out that positioning is ALWAYS part of the equation, just that it is something for the individual to consider separately to the runs post in thread.

Thanks Serfty, that's a good idea too. I will call them and see if changing to flexi or adding the comfort seat will be the cheapest option.

It sounds like comfort seat status credits don't post automatically and you have to call to ask for them which is a hassle. Sounds like it might be cheapest option though

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Yeah ... the issue mainly being the change fee for the existing booking.

This is my first time I have posted. I have been Qantas Platinum for 3 years now, and need 180 SC to keep it by end of May. I looked at a number of options, and found flying SYD-BNE-DRW then DRW-ADL-SYD in Business will provide 240 SC and is about $2,250.00 + a night in Darwin Not cheap, however for premium cabin flights it is cheap compared to going to Perth which is around $4k Return.

There are some cheap NZ business class fares available in May - depending on routing, you might be able to get 180 SCs for much cheaper. I'm on my mobile so I can't check for you I'm sorry.

Comfort seats are all about your comfort; not another 'invisible' pax. Which is why you get the points and SCs.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

For Mark3000, my comfort seat QF FF points and QF SC came into my account without me having to phone up, after doing the flying, I made copies of the BP, but didn't need to send it in, as a few days after the flight, 4 lots of QF FF points and QF SC appeared in my QF account.

SYD-[BNE|MEL]-CNS can be done in Business for ~$1,900 return for 200 SCs and can be done there and back in a day if you want. Flex fares in Economy is approx $680 return for 100 SCs, so you'd need to do twice to get the 200 @ ~$1,360.

Does the comfort seat have to be in the same class as you are travelling or can you book Flex Y for you and Discount Y for your "companion"?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

The trip is not until June (after the HKG lounge run). TR will follow.

MH has a promo on at the moment. E.g. BKK-KUL-MNL return, AU$650. 240SC from memory.

Do you have a link or any details for the MH promo? Just tried a few bookings but only getting business fares, no business promo fares.

Should be bookable via MH's website. It's a promotion sale after all, so availability is limited. The sale ends next week, and the travel period is up till the end of Nov.
