Maybe Easter is out, but it would give him/her a bit of time off, ie, a long weekend, 4 days off.
PER - east coast to NZ on EK with a QF code will give him/her the SC he/she needs in one go.
Other than that, is to keep an Excel log of how many SC has been collected on many small series of flights to make up the difference needed for retaining SG.
I prattle on about the EK thing, because as a subcontractor, I am paid to attend to clean, no appearance, no $, no $, no enjoyment in my pastimes.
I am doing the EK with a QF flight, MEL - AKL in F, its a try. My first in my life. That gives me 120 for it, plus 80 already done, thats 200, plus 80 (J) coming back to MEL, = 280, + 30 (JQ dom) that I was asking about, its PS at 310.
Bear with me, ADL - MEL (evening) then next day, (Apr 16), MEL - WLG and back, 240 all up.
Then possibly ADL - SYD (evening), then next day, (mid Jul 16), SYD - CHC in F with EK with a QF flight number, thats close to 600.
Coming back would put me into SG till maybe 2017.
Maybe after 2017, will fly less but in "higher class".
NZ over many different long weekends, is the only holiday I get before having to do a turn around back to ADL to work.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

If you have the time and the budget SriLankan has dirt cheap J fares ex-SIN to CDG, FRA and FCO, circa AUD2500 for what mus be somewhere around 400 SCs return. If you're looking for something shorter and cheaper I would consider ex-SIN MH fares to north Asia.

I could not believe the fantastic value... CDG-CMB-BKK return, 2 weeks either side of the xmas/new year period for 1400 EUR. I actually cancelled a 280k QF award I had so that I could get the SC and spend the extra week with family. Of course I need to do the BKK-SYD part but that was simple (as always) with mileage plus.

Getting my QFF points back though is turning into a bit of fun - paid the taxes originally in CHF and have had to call twice over the past 5 days to see why the booking hasnt been cancelled yet - seems something in the system is putting up flags asking for help...

Need 580SC to retain WP. Heading to Canada and wondering if anyone has any good suggestions for a run out of VYR? Thanks in advance

WTF ???? how can you get so many SC's for so little ??? Surely Alan has not had a Brain Fade on co share earns has he ???

Was playing around a Matrix search and J flights came in second cheapest.

I believe the flights require a 4 or 5 night stay. Also available in the reverse direction. Probably cheap as it looks like a tag flight.

Never booked with LAN but these flights should be eligible for DB rail and fly for 29 euros each way whether directly on the site or via their call centre. So you can train it in anywhere on DB network on the day or before/after depending on if outbound or return flight.

Thanks. I work FIFO so I'm not as restricted to weekends, just when my roster allows me. The QF website is telling me EK flights don't earn SCs, is the trick to book on the EK website and try find a QF number'd flight at a lower rate than the QF equivalent?

Continuing to kick myself for not paying more attention when booking my flight to YLW.

As for the SC/$ of PER/MEL/CNS its proving pretty hard to beat, the best I can find is a day trip to Bali for $328 with J* for 50 SC @ $6.56/SC but that's a lot of grinding to get the required SCs

What are my options out of SIN?

What are my options out of SIN?

The MH Z class fares are better priced out of BKK and CMB. In Z, BKK-KUL-CMB is 120 SC and CMB-KUL-HKG 160 SC
Combine with a J* flight PER to/from SIN and BKK/HKG and the SC add up fairly quickly.

Happy wandering

You're making an assumption there that easter is a time off for everyone - it isn't.
also ex-PER would involve a redeye (or an overnight on the east coast) to connect to the EK services (and probably on the return also). That is extra cost to consider. The request was for an "economical" way to get the SC's.

umm yeah.

just a comment. you may find it cheaper to do ADL-MEL-SYD-CHC r/t if one of those F sale fares comes up. MEL-xSYD-CHC v.v. can earn 330SC as it's a forced connection via SYD. if you really want to.

no. the "trick" is to book on the QF website (or via QF) on QF8xx_ flight numbers (eg: QF8406/8407 MEL-AKL-MEL, or whatever). You won't find this on the EK website. Just do not book EK4xx for those flights or yes, you will earn 0 SC (stupid polcy restriction but that's an aside). All the EK trans tasman flights have QF codeshares on them, so they are pretty easy to find. You will find there is a surcharge of around $30-$50 for this, but it's worth it. IMHO.

Yeah its a tag flight, it looks like it requires a Sat night for the cheapest fare but immediate turn is only about $30 more. If you have 6 or 7 hours to kill in MAD and you have a late departure it might be worth a little look

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hi FFers, would love your advice on this.

I've been a WP for years, but I'm currently looking at 12 months without travel longer than 2-3 days (weekends mostly).

I'd like to keep my WP status for the following year, so I'm looking at options for: either a weekend away somewhere close by with good SC, or a 1-day status run (domestic/NZ?). Cost is not too much of a worry (within reasonable limits, of course).

For weekends away, I'm thinking JQ business to Bali/Singapore/coughet would be good (240 SC return) - 5 of those and I'll re-qualify for WP! Could spread these throughout the year. The price tag is about ~$1300.

Are there any other options?

It would help if you can tell us where you are located?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I hear ya, and I'm kicking myself for booking what I have booked. I called AA and they wanted $500 to change my inflexible flights around. I only have 3-4 hours in LAX in both directions and similar in SEA.
The LAX-SEA-YLW portion has AS flight numbers, G,V on the way out and T, T on the way back so 0 SCs earned ?

I have 56k FF points so could head to MEL/SYD and look at options from there? I can also see some availability on PER-SIN in November for 56k points return so I could start from there too. or take J* for $400 and 50SC and start from there

JQ to BKK, then MH J to Asian destinations on a promo fare. BKK-SIN return can be done same day, but only 120SC total. Do this before 1 December. BKK-HKG has better earning but I'm not sure of the timing. A JQ plus bundle also has pretty good earning.

The MH Z class fares are better priced out of BKK and CMB. In Z, BKK-KUL-CMB is 120 SC and CMB-KUL-HKG 160 SC

If you've been WP "for years" it's also possible the "3 year rule" can come into effect without flying all that stuff just for status. Not saying fly 0, but maybe a couple of return "F" flights MEL-SYD-CHC on QF (codeshare on EK SYD-CHC-SYD) can get you near 700 SC for ~$5k outlay (since cost is not so much of an issue, and I thought I'd get in before the pooch :) ).You could do JQ J and intra-asia, but if it were me and just for SC runs where cost is less of an issue I'd probably opt for NZ (though I'd also grab the sale J and F fares that come around on a fairly regular basis).

Another weekend option without needing your passport is MEL-xSYD-OOL in J ~$1300 for 160 SC

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Also on the topic of intra-Asia MH Z fares, BKK-KUL-MNL return is great value. I just booked that return for THB24,000 (NZD$1000) which nets 240SC's. Have to overnight though, but airport hotels are NZD$40 or so.
