Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Sorry I edited my post before you replied. Do JQ flights + Bundles count as ~'s?

Yes

"You must fly a minimum of four eligible flight segments on Qantas, QantasLink and Jetstar and earn the required Status Credits to keep/reach your tier during your membership year. "

Thanks. Are JQ segments only counted when you opt for the SC option instead of the voucher option?

Need to ask - If I need 1 segment to get to the required 4 & I don't need any more SC ,can I buy the cheapest basic JQ flight to get it to qualify as a segment ?.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

So now it's myturn to ask this question. I'm looking for a little help to reduce the costs ofa status run for SWMBO. I don't need the SCs (my year doesn’t expire until 30November and I should be pretty close as it is) but I will inevitably have togo with her if she does a run.

The facts:

· She needs 160SC before 31 March to retain Gold.
· She has the4/4 QF/JQ sectors.
· ex SYD (or maybe DRW - but less flexibility)
· Happy to doovernights away - preferably on the weekend - might be able to take a Friday ora Monday off if needed.
· Happy to do aday of back-to-back flights.
· Hasn’t got a doubleSC offer yet (but one can't be that far away - this would probably significantlychange my maths below as a <$700 SYD-DRW-SYD would yield 80SCs or a SYD-regional NSW-SYD would yield 40SC for less than $200 if you hit a special)

Where I am at:

· At this stage, the cheapest and easiest I seem to be able to get is 2x LA J class SYD-AKL-SYDruns at $700 for 80SC a pop (so $1400).
· Somewhat similarresults can be obtained with JQ SYD-AKL-SYD runs at about $340 for 40SC)
· Or SWMBO hasan existing booking for the weekend SYD-DRW-SYD into which I could build in a3K DRW-SIN-KUL at $250 for 30SC then a MH/QF KUL-SIN-BNE-DRW for $690 foranother 60SC - which is slightly inferior (but substantially more brutal) tothe AKL LA J option - but requires no accom and works with an existing booking(and saves me coming down to SYD to fly as well).

I actuallydon't think that it is worth dropping ~$1400 on gold status. QF club membershipis about $250 sign up and $300 in the first year (well that's what my corporaterate is - but I imagine that there are better options out there) and she doesmost of her travelling with me so gets access to the better seats and loungesanyway. The odd lengthy stay at an airport on an independent trip could bemanaged with a small supply of lounge access cards from credit cards (or justpaying for drinks and food at the bar!).

Any greatideas for improving on my options above or bolstering my 'don't bother about it'argument would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
TripleB

It's also worth keeping in mind that the SCs needed for requalification is less than what is needed for attaining the status, which may comes into play next year. There is also additional status bonus so you can earn extra points next year.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Keep DRW-DPS-DRW on your list of options. It's 50SC return and if you can get the sale fare ($119+bundle) it works out at $6.5/SC. It's a slightly better earn rate than your AKL option, though fewer total SC.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I nabbed 120 credits booking Emirates F Auckland - Brisbane on QF website for ~$900 NZD. Not sure if the deal is still on. I had to book cheapie flights to get to Auckland and then home from BNe (helped that Auckland is a work hub) but it is a good option.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Actually that F sale is a damn good idea - you can rack up 140SC for a little over $1000 in a day if you take JQ over in the morning and EK back in the afternoon. Hmmmmm

And travel in F on an A380. Just returned from a J to F upgrade with Emirates but not on the A380. Spoilt for life now. ;).

And it will get me to Gold too.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I've been looking at some USA runs and finally booked LAX-DFW-MIA-PTY-MIA-ORD-LAS for $877USD and 510 SC for dates in March spread over a week (planning some relaxation time with the trip so didn't look for quick turnaround).

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I need 150 SC points to keep Gold this year in the next 5 weeks, I spotted the idea above and it was perfect as I have to go to Brisbane some time to drop off some ski gear to my son. So its on Wagga to Syd, Syd to Auckland on Qantas using a voucher I have then back to Brisbane on the A380. Drop off the gear and fly home the following day.

So solves my problem and I get to test First Class on the A380 as a bonus. I noticed also this deal puts first class for just $48 more than business.

Oh and can we access the town car service once in Brisbane.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I'm doing LAX-ATL-MIA-ORD-LAX-SFO, US$1057, 410SC US$2.58 per SC. Single day turnaround.

Anyone got any better ones out of LAX (domestic only with same day turnaround) or NYC (preferably JFK but can handle LGA), please let me know!

Just looking at the JETSTAR $149 specials from Gold Coast $179 from Sydney to Nadi Fiji.... With the extra $42 plus bundle giving 40 status credits...thats $191 to $221 for 40 status = return $382 to $442 for 80 status. Unless I am wrong seems not bad if you are chasing credits for cheap???

It's 40 SCs one way with the max bundle, but the plus bundle is only 25 SCs one way. It's better than the usual value you would get on a Y flight, although not special enough to really make an effort for unless you really need it, and you need it now with no better alternatives available.
