Book your AKL trip in F.

Syd-Akl in EK (QF codeshare) F for ~$2500 and 360sc (120x2x1.5)

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

This looks like a quick way to reach the status but at roughly $7 it doesn't seem to be the best bang for buck?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Or if you can position to HBA, then you can get

HBA-MEL-BNE-CNS for $556 on a Flexi Saver. That gives: 20 + 30 + 30 = 80 * 1.5 = 120

this is great, found a flight on JQ that gets me down in time to leave on the same morning. Just need to work out how to get home!

You could always plan a couple day's holiday in CNS :) (The local economy needs as much help as possible lately).

Is it possible to use the QF calculator to work out the SCs for a route that doesn't have QF F, when taken in EK F with a QF flight number. The calculator doesn't seem to cope.

For example, BNE -> AKL in F on EK can be booked with a QF flight number (e.g. QF8770 / QF8771 return).

However, the QF calculator won't let you select F for BNE -> AKL when QF is selected as the airline -- Flex J is the highest category. However, F can be selected when EK is selected as the airline, but Calculator says 0 SCs (which would be correct for an EK flight number, but not a QF one).

Is there a way to trick it to let me see the SCs that would be earned on such a flight, or is it a matter of going back to the tables ... ?

Might just have to go back to the tables.

My own SC tool gives 120 SC for QF F from BNE to AKL.

Thanks anat0l; that was pretty much the conclusion I came to.

For anyone in BNE not doing anything at Christmas, and based on kevrosmith's HBA -> CNS idea, I found this:

Details, in case you can't see the screen shot:

1. 24th Dec: start 15:00, end 20:30
BNE -> MEL (QF625)
MEL -> HBA (QF1507)

2. 25th Dec: start 09:45, end 19:20
HBA -> MEL (QF1502)
MEL -> BNE (QF616)
BNE -> CNS (QF784)
CNS -> BNE (QF655)

All Flexi saver, for 160 SCs and 11200 points (as WP).

Cost: $1277.19, for just under $8/SC. If you're WP with 1.5 SC offer and take away $112 (my nominal value of 11200 QFF points earned), that drops to a normalized cost of $4.85/SC. But you have to sleep outside HBA airport, or know someone to stay with there on Christmas Eve.

Still, not bad if you have 1.5xSC offer and you don't have anywhere to be at Christmas. :-D

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hi all.. I need 100SC to move from PS to SG by 31/01/2015. I was thinking of buying $500 of 'qantas cash' then booking MEL-xSYD-OOL Y Flexi-Saver (80sc and 5k points) and using the 4.8k points I would earn from the flight to bring the cost down to $457. Then if i dont end up flying in jan for work (there is talk of a MEL-BNE trip) then I can just do a quick jaunt somewhere for the remaining 20. Is there anything more efficient to either earn the 80SC that i was planning on earning or something to earn the whole 120?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

You will not be able to use the points gained until after you have flown! :(

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

TSV for some reason has always been much better for status points than CNS, no idea why.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Trying to work out SC optimisation on a trip I need to book. Budget $2000-2500 per person x 2 people - but we can travel separately.
Wanting WP (1400 sc we both lost WP buy using points redemption and jq price beat flights rather than try to retain wp in the last 12 months).
+1 has 65sc I have 0 (my year just reset)
Booked is syd-dbo-syd for 20sc
Syd-dps-syd for 80 sc (14-20th jan but can't do a sc run here because its a diving holiday)
Syd-HNL-Syd for 90 sc (19-28th feb)
what we need to book is a trip to PDX and GEG 21/22/23 Jan to start of feb.
I am trying to work out if we should do a status run from HNL and for PDX/GEG trip or just one. And if I should book JQ to HNL and AA First class to/from pdx/geg or if there is a better way to maximise sc for an acceptable $ outlay.
Any ideas?
Must be in PDX on the 24/25 for an event we are attending. All other days flexible if there are ideas/options going to be thrown at me.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Is anyone able to help me find a reloc? I booked my AA trip, and I thought I took a screen shot of the info page but I didn't (with my booking confirmation number, aa reloc and us reloc) I don't have the email yet so I have no way to retrieve the booking. It timed out while I was trying to enter in the seta details etc. I don't know where to start. I am not an AA member, I put my QFF number into the booking argh its so frustrating!

Or alternatively, Call AA using their australian number to save $.

EDIT: And check your credit card to see if the booking was actually made first.

CC isn't charged yet but I called and got the reference number. I have had delays of up to 12 hours with AA charging my card and this being a complex itinerary netting me 1600+ sc at bang on $2/sc (usd) I would think it might need to be manually ticketed before I get the email, or some such thing. She didn't have any concerns about the ticket, though I didn't ask.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

My Ticket is issued. They were unable to issue the original ticket but insisted they continue to try for days. Today I told them to cancel it and I will start again (17 segments in the original). I checked the fare rules and there were 2 fare basis in there so I started with the most important set of flights which were fortunately all on the one fare basis. Something that is indicated as $2100 return allowed another 2 destinations (open jaw) for the same price accumulating 1240 sc for that price.
I used google flights to find the cheapest destination as a return form HNL. Using their map I panned around target regions.
When I had to separate the bookings my 11 segments that were dedicated to the flights on the original bumped up to 14 flights. So now I don't need to do the extra flights, but they were to Cancun a destination we would like to visit so currently debating what to do.
Rather than post and have the fare rules changed to disallow this I am happy for PM's to share the destination with you. I did see another couple but they didn't work as well with the open jaw, but google flights map search thing is definitely your friend. The only thing it doesn't do is calculate $ per SC but it can narrow the field by price and alliance and I am sure you are all on to it already, if not - it seems to take ITA matrix and nicely return results from destination by plotting the cities and prices on a map which you can narrow down as detailed above.

Can you PM me please? I'm trying to work out pretty much exactly this for the US in March.

Haha, OMG so sorry guys, my inbox was full before I even posted that. I didn't realise. I've made some space now :)

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Any recommendations for cheap segments? I need 2 more ~ to get status. I assume that one only needs 4~ (+ the required SC) to achieve all QFF status' correct?

Edit: Do JQ + Bundles count as ~?

Correct. You only need four eligible segments for any QF status.

If you're in Sydney, look for a regional port like Coffs Harbour. If you're in Singapore, try any number of cheap Jetstar options.
