Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Thanks I rechecked and on my offer dated 17th june ANY SEAT AWARDS BOOKED IN U are eligible.

is it possible there are multiple offers for this DSC ????????
Absolutely - however you should still check (and recheck).

To paraphrase the offer in question, (post #3 of that thread) it related to non discount fares requiring Flexi Economy or Business. As you have indicated, other offers may not have the same restriction.

I am booking one Melb to Brisbane in December so hopefully it pays

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

So realising that I only had ~1hr left to book my domestic flights and qualify for the 1.5SC offer (I thought it was applicable to bookings made up until Dec - good thing I checked!) I decided to make a rash decision and book a SYD-BNE-TSV in JASA, in the next few weeks. (I looked at the KTA options but nothing was available on the dates I wanted to fly)

Talk about a fantastic experience on the ASA hotline. Barry (nice bloke) knew exactly what I wanted, asked me if this was a quick run to build up my SCs (smart man!) and sorted it all out for me, no hassles.

86k points for 300SCs (approx 288pts per SC) - not bad, fully flexible too. :)

Just thought I'd share - it's something I never thought I'd do! Thought I'd be OK with dropping to Gold (I'm close-ish to LTG anyway), but with a big RTW holiday coming up next year, and a lot more international travel, I realised I didn't want to have to re-earn WP, and go without for a while!

Thanks for the thread!

Cheers,
- Febs.
48k + fees, but I did it all on points. Usually 78k I believe (according to this thread) but it was at very short notice.

Fully on points as a standard ASA it was around 290k! :O

This JASA should have been 48k points

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Just completed a status run in J today, booked as a phone-in mASA (thanks to asg29e). Got a DSC offer so booked CBR-SYD-OOL-SYD-CBR for 32K points and $297.82 (+$7 CC fee). SC of 160 (x 2) so cost per SC = $0.95 (+ points). :D

Got me to gold too. Now wondering whether to get another 310SC (x2 DSC) for WP.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi - I'm based in Melbourne and I need to get 70 SC in the next week or so to qualify for Gold. I don't have a DSC offer or even a 1.5 SC offer and I can really only fly on the weekends. I was just wondering if anyone can give me the cheapest run to do ex-MEL to achieve these points?

Also - where can I find the exact process to correctly get this booked?

Thanks all!

You can basically do a JASA to anywhere. MEL-SYD-MEL should be about 32,000 points plus $$'s and yield 80SC

A little bit of research on this site would answer your questions, especially in the threads indicated by Febs above.

You would know that a JASA would earn you 4x a Y and the minimum Y SCs is 10 so then minimum, one-way JASA is 40 SC. You need 70 so all you've got to look for is a cheap JASA return out of MEL or one to a place you actually want to go to. I doesn't matter where, you'll get the SCs.
If you want to use fewer points then you look at a longer JASA one-way (eg BNE = 60 SC; OOL 80 SC) and then a Y back with either QF (BNE) or whoever (OOL).

So I checked online and put in a dummy booking for a classic award and I got 32,000 point for MEL-SYD return and $70 extra. Is this correct? Is this what i'll actually pay on top of my points?

It will likely be more than that since ASAs tend to have higher co-pays than Classic awards. I'm not sure how much more - the other threads may give a better idea (I'm out of the loop on this); my gut is that it may be a bit more substantial than that (remember: I said, "my gut").

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I'm currently a NB and wanted to accelerate to WP as quickly as possible. I don't have any points so will need to obtain SC from cash fares. Can anyone tell me what are the best SC runs ex PER that provides the best $/SC value? Thanks

Wow this is going to be expensive.
Are you happy to go to the US ? That's likely to be the cheapest way.
You can probably get 1400 SCs by spending say $2-3k on status runs over there, plus say $1500 to get there, plus accomodation for say 3-4 nights, you are probably looking at around $5k.

Getting to the US on QF should get you your four squigglies (PER-MEL/SYD-LAX and then the return).

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hello all,
Trying to stay gold in what has been a slow year for my redroo flying.
I've been researching runs in the US ex-LAS for Feb next year. I'm maxxing out at about 3.59 per SC for LAS(F)-LAX(J)-JFK(J)-SJU(J)-MIA(F)-DFW(F)-LAS on AA (which comes to about $1870 aussie) for 520 SCs.
I need about 500 SCs, so any suggestions would be most welcome. I'm starting on the evening of the 13th and have to be back in LAS by about 10pm on the 15th. Happy to position somewhere if that's what it takes - and also happy to go stupid if anyone has a wicked plan to get about 12-1300 over the 2-3 days.
Not asking for a spoonfeed, but a suggestion on routes to try would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Peter

I found las-lax-mco-mia-sju-dfw-lax-las for $959.40 US (560 SC) so around $1.7/SC

Avoid routing LAX-JFK as that books you into trans-con J instead of F and hence a lower number of SCs earned, even though you'll be flying more miles. Most trips (LAS-SJU or SJU-LAS) should max out at 4 segments but every now and then you can find 5 segment trips (especially return from SJU). If each direction isn't earning at least 330SC, you're not trying hard enough :p

Considering it's winter, I'd try and avoid ORD and NYC (JFK, ERW, LGA). A decent routing would be LAS-LAX-DFW-MIA-SJU for 330SC or if you want to brave ORD and LGA LAS-ORD-LGA-MIA-SJU for 360SC. The LAS-LAX-ORD-MIA-SJU routing in my experience has been a little bit harder to find (don't know if that's changed). Can't remember the exact routing but I once found a 5 segment trip SJU-LAS for 390SC! Really good runs are there to be found, it's just a matter of how hard you want to look for them.
