re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

A follow up on my PER-SYD-NOU-SYD-PER routing. Spoke with a very helpful agent on the premium desk who agreed that I should be able to select the 4:20pm flight out of Perth instead of the 11:55pm red-eye and changed the reservation accordingly for no charge. She thought that the booking engine tries to minimise connection time, in particular forced overnight connections.

This is an excellent outcome, that's how customer service should always be! Were you able to use your voucher in the end? You mentioned NOU not even showing up using the voucher redemption search engine?

Yes, I was very happy with the outcome. I did manage to "force" the voucher booking engine to accept NOU as a valid destination. It is actually in there as "NOUNUE" but of course the system will not accept it as being valid. If you go into developer mode and know what you are looking for, you can override the airport code and it will go through. I've communicated with QF's web tech support and hopefully they are going to fix it, though they said it probably won't be done until the next feature release for the whole website.

That's user friendly!!!

You can use vouchers over the phone with the call centre and there's no charge for doing so either, assuming what you are trying to book does not work on the QF website.

Any good ideas for SC run out of BNE need approximately 70 to retain gold or possibly 30 if my company books flexi instead of red e deal for my next flight

There are some credit card offers with 75 SCs if you book and fly QF before a certain date. ANZ is still current:

https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/frequent-flyer/black/

Some hefty fees in the following years if you don't cancel but some of these cards come with annual travel insurance (subject to min spend on travel products).

Nismos14, 70 QF SC one way or return?
QF sometimes have $599 across to NZ which will give you 80 QF SC in J, you can come back in whY, for 20.
Need to catch the J fare sale when they arise quick though.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hi all, just trying to start some research here.
In 2018, sometime between June - October (most likely around September/October) BeeJnr (will be 9y/o) and I will be doing some travel from BNE to Huntsville Alabama (HSV).
I am trying to look at the most effective flight combinations, via QF and partners to maximise SC accrual. Travel will most likely be in whY.
In saying that, part of the research being done now is to enable the possibility to pounce on a booking if there is an exceptional J sale and/or 50% or 100% extra Status Credit offer available.

BeeJnr will be in HSV for 5 days (Sunday to Friday) and during this time I will be free to have some fun doing some status runs around the US as well.

Any hints, tips, thoughts and connection options would be greatly appreciated.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Old news now, but before the most recent split between QF and AA, they each used to be able to carry each others codes, ie, flight numbers, but now, they don't.
The main idea now, up to when we hear any differently, would be to fly with a QF flight numbered flight all the way to the US, meaning it would have to be a QF plane too, to the nearest city to Alabama that QF flies to, might be DFW, and then AA from there.
You might have to go out to the US from SYD, to get to DFW, am not sure if QF flies from BNE to DFW, you could go BNE - LAX with QF and then dom AA from there.
Think that the FAA or a US govt agency stopped the QF and AA frequent flyer deal for some reason or other.
You can check the QF SC calculator to see how much QF SC you will earn, in whY, I don't think it will make you QF SG in any quick a time. Probably not even QF PS.
Need to fly maybe Au - DXB with QF, and then LHR, then over from the UK to the US (with BA also min QF SC earn), and back if you want to get at least QF PS.
You can of course fly QF premY/J from Au - US and might make QF PS in a return flight.
Edit: as for DSC, you might be lucky if QF does decide to bring another one up, but they might not.
Flying anything other than QF will see your SC earn rate drop.

There is a J sale, BNE - AKL for $550, which gives 80 QF SC on the way over, and whY back, 20, about $6.xx which of course, you have to add a cheap fare back, but unless you can get boss to pay to pay flexY, that NZ one would give you the needed SC ASAP after you fly it.
Also your chance to see the QFi BNE J lounge and the EK BNE lounge as well.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Complete QF noob here needing advice:
As a VA SG I'm considering asking for a match with QF (which will probably lead to a challenge?) and want to start researching best option to reach the 200SC required to obtain SG.
Based in BNE (can fly out of OOL if much cheaper) prefer domestic but could do international.
A lot of the info on the wiki appears to be very out of date.
Want the QF SG for a award Y+ booking I have LAX>BNE in Jan'18, in order to access lounge and maybe be considered for an upgrade?

Pooch you are confused......
There are a loads of AA domestic flights which have QF codes on them. Entirely possible to book straight through on a QF ticket with QF code. In fact I booked a return to BOS from SYD yesterday, it's all on QF code.
What changed was the ability to fly transpacific on AA with a QF codeshare and vice versa.

QF will also consider your recent flight activity + upcoming bookings (e.g. Qantas Frequent Flyer Report: Challenge | StatusMatcher) so be prepared to provide this. Also worth noting that link was VA WP matched to QF SG.

Do you have any other planned QF/OW travel on which you'd be able to utilise the status? Realistically you will be looking at >$2000 and a weekend flying to achieve SG, as the 200SC must be earnt on QF flight codes - JQ/OW does not count. If not, you may find that a QP membership, or signing up to a credit card which comes with some single-use passes (AFAIK these work at QF's LAX lounge) is a more cost effective option.

Thanks for the response! I'll definitely look into the single use passes, that would be fine! I thought they didn't work there as it's a 'Oneworld' Lounge, but i'll have to look that up.

Argh, indeed you are correct. I thought any QF-operated Qantas International Business Lounge was eligible, but there is apparently an exception just for TBIT!

Complimentary Invitations are not valid for use at Domestic Business Lounges, the Los Angeles (Tom Bradley Terminal) International Business Lounge, or any Associated Lounges*.

I still think QP membership may be a better option unless you already have a need to fly in the next 3 months, and can credit to QF.

Alternatively you can look into 30-day AA lounge pass (from memory I think it is/was around US$90 and gets you into AA and QF lounges).

I was VA SG (now WP) and did a status challenge with QF (200sc for SG), MEL-BNE-CHC-SYD-MEL in QF J, CHC-SYD was on EK in J, all for just under $1800 for 520sc (with double SC)

Yep, when there are TT sale fares and DSC promos running there are some terrific deals... but they need to be running.

deva22 OOL-xSYD-CHC return is on sale for $1281 and nets 240SC - could be a good option.
