re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Quick question. Gearing up to do a status point run as I am very close to Platinum again. Got 1165 points so far and technically if all goes to schedule, should have another 160 status points for 2 flexi return flights Brisbane - Darwin for work. So I am only 75 points short.
Status reset date is Aug 30, so any suggestions on the best bang for the buck status point run from Brisbane? I am aiming for around between 80 and 160 status points just in case they book the cheap economy fares for me for work. My old plan of doing a Qantas Jetstar any seat business class flight to Cairns doesn't seem to work now as the cost ballooned.
Don't have any double status points offers either and not eligible for the ANZ or Amex card offers.

I don't have any suggestions ex-BNE, but wanted to say it's worth checking if you'll hit any loyalty bonuses with those incoming 160 SC. Could save you a fair whack of money if you only need 25 SC instead of 75.

Unfortunately I used up both of them for the 50 status points,
I could also fly via Sydney ($200 or less Jetstar fare), or Darwin (straight from work and delay my R&R flight).

To avoid confusion, QF uses status credits, not status points. :)

Pretty sure the SC earn from loyalty bonuses does NOT count for levelling up. Wiser heads may be able to expand on this.

It does.. otherwise what would be the point?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

They don't count towards P1, nor subsequent status bonuses I believe, perhaps that's where the confusion lies...
Correct. So if you are going for P1 and already have or expect to have LTG before you'd otherwise drop down to PS there's no point taking the status credits as the loyalty bonus.

The other confusion is regarding which flights are eligible. Only eligible sectors count towards a loyalty bonus. Though if you can get flights on a OneWorld airline (e.g. AA) at a much cheaper dollar rate per SC that may far outweigh missing out on a loyalty bonus. Though again if you're going for P1 most of your flying needs to be on QF.

So, just to get it clear in my head, loyalty bonus SC only count for gaining Silver and Gold level membership?

It counts towards PS, SG and WP (the tier temujin is aiming for)

It doesn't count towards P1.

Some reasonable value in J to Noumea at the moment, particularly if you can reposition for itineraries like this ($1521* for 320SC or $4.75/SC)

* requires overnight in Sydney

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I've been trying to set up one of these Noumea business fares from either CNS (via BNE then SYD) or PER (via SYD) and would prefer to overnight in SYD before the NOU segment. I can't seem to get this to work on the QF booking engine. If I try via Multi-City the fare jumps up enormously. I can get what I want via Google Flights but then I can't use a voucher.

Anyone have pointers on how to get my preferred routing? Dates not so critical at this juncture - thinking July or August. Looking at leaving CNS or PER on a Friday, overnight in SYD then take the QF operated flight to NOU on Saturday morning. Return will be on the Monday.

Thanks in advance.

I got the PER-SYD-NOU-SYD-PER to price at $1453 on August 11-14 using multicity tool on QF website with an overnight in SYD on the 11, but you can't use a voucher on a multicity initerary. Maybe you could book the flights without overnight using your voucher and then call QF to use the "same day booking mistake" policy to add a longer layover.

Would be very interested to find out if this works.

I've used the "same day booking mistake" policy to be rebooked on flight combinations not showing on QF website (e.g. longer layover in SYD to enjoy the F lounge on my way to the US), but I haven't done it for overnight.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

The PTY fares still exist. They have gone up maybe $50 but they are definitely still there. PM me if you would like assistance with it.
There are some cheapish return J fares on random dates but the cheap one-way fares appear to have gone completely. I'm looking for PTY-LAX in early April 18, but can only see ~US$880.

I've so far got to SJU for a cruise but struggling to find good options back (even in whY!). SJU-xMIA-SJO (o/w) was US$300 in J but jumped to US$500+. Although, I can now see some days at ~US$425.

Any better ideas for good runs in Mar/April 2018 ex-SJU and finishing in LAX?

Thanks defurax. I will probably do this, however on trying to redeem the voucher it seems that NOU is not in list of destination codes! I've fired off a message to QF tech support to see if this is an omission or intentional. May have to try and book the whole thing over the phone and see if they will waive booking fees.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

A follow up on my PER-SYD-NOU-SYD-PER routing. Spoke with a very helpful agent on the premium desk who agreed that I should be able to select the 4:20pm flight out of Perth instead of the 11:55pm red-eye and changed the reservation accordingly for no charge. She thought that the booking engine tries to minimise connection time, in particular forced overnight connections.
