Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi all, new to AFF!

I'm looking for the most cost effective status run ex HBA to get at least 150 SCs. Any time between now and 31 Jan 2016, preferably in one day on a Saturday or Sunday.

The best I've found at the moment is HBA-MEL-CBR-MEL-HBA in J for $1548/160 SCs - can't help but think there's a better option though!
HBA is limited, and whilst the one you have listed is $10/SC it is straight forward.

A slight variation though it would be a very long day would be HBA-MEL-SYD-OOL-SYD-MEL-HBA for 180 SC. HBA-MEL return in Y and the others in J. Cost approx $1492 though you need to pick your day carefully.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

If you want to enjoy a nice meal on that status run I would suggest HBA-MEL return on JQ with the Plus bundle on 1 segment (~200$) for 10SC, then MEL-AKL on QF coded EK flight in F (1280$ for 120 SC), and finally AKL-MEL in Y for 215$ and 20SC. So 150 SC for 1695, not the cheapest option, but you get to drink champagne, eat in the First class lounge, take a shower in flight and fly back in Y wondering where the champagne is...:D

Re: QF status run?

Hi there
First time posting, have just discovered this website on the quest to chase SCs! Require 260 to retain QFF Platinum by the end of October. Happy to travel anywhere in the world and make a bit of a trip out of it. Ideally looking at travelling between 12 - 30 June or could potentially be between the following dates:

  • 15 May - 26 June
  • 24 July - 4 August
  • 21 August - 1 September
  • 18 September - 29 September
  • 16 October - 27 October

Have read the page about ideal ratios of $:SC, but just unsure where to start looking to find flights especially as I don't really mind where I go. I will be travelling with my partner and will try to purchase this flight with points. Has anyone seen any great deals lately?

Cheers, Kez

Edit: Sorry forgot to mention based in BNE, however would like to fly out of SYD to visit family and use the first lounge

Welcome aboard KezJay, you've certainly started well wanting to retain WP.

First question is where are you based? However, 260 SCs could be gained by flying MEL-BKK return on Jet* Business Max (240 SCs) and flying to/from MEL, at least 10 SCs each way if you're not based here.

Re: QF status run?

Thanks Hvr, I've edited my post. Can't believe I forgot the most important info of where to fly out of (BNE - SYD)! Just trying to do the trip the most cost effective way but still have some fun! Wish Qantas would do another double status again, but haven't seen one for ages.

Looking forward to reading a lot more of the forums and info on the site.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Yep. I'm with you. This will be my last year trying to re qual WP Depending on CC earn, Mrs GPH and I do ok in the points space. So I should qualify LTS by Christmas , so along with my QP (life) membership even the lack of Dom upgrades won't damage lounge access ( albeit QP v J lounge) we won't chase status any more as the $ required are just a wee bit high.
Yes, I'm with you. Since Qantas reduced the status credits given for many flights I have decided not to bother trying to retain Gold, as I also have lifetime Star Gold (whose lifetime?). Not worth the cost these days. I wonder if Qantas is starting to feel the pinch?

Likewise with Emirates. There's no way I will try to retain Gold with them since they recently put a knife through their already poor Skywards program.

Star alliance works fine for me, except in Australia.

Re: QF status run?

I will be travelling with my partner and will try to purchase this flight with points.

If you purchase with points, you will have to use Points plus Pay to buy revenue fares to ensure you earn SCs. If you purchase Classic Awards then you won't earn any SCs.

Generally P+P is not a good value proposition for use of points. There are reports, however, of some odd fares popping up that represent similar value to the old JASAs.

I read it as using points for the positioning flight, and then revenue flights when there (wherever that may be) for the SC earn.

Best QF Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

I read it as using points for their partners flights and corresponding revenue fare for KezJay to earn SC's. Being BNE based I agree with the previous recommendation by hvr.

Makes sense. The new arrival to the family means I am probably not as awake as I should be.... :-|

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hi Mr Orange, JessicaTam and QF WP
Sorry for the confusion, I will be paying in full for my flights and using points for my wife's. She is bronze and isn't chasing any status. Never having done flights just for SCs it's turned out to be a lot more confusing that I thought! I did contact a travel agent who apparently knew about Qantas and SCs, but haven't heard back. With so many 'specials', destinations and trying to work out partner airline flights it's really not that simple. Thanks for your help and suggestions.
Cheers, Kez

Haha! Yep, recommended by a friend... must say when I spoke to him he sounded like he understood what I wanted. Somethings you've just got to do yourself! It's doing my head in to find something that suits though.

You can try BNE-SYD-CGK return in J: $2,100 for 320 SCs ($6.56/SC).

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Just wondering if anyone has done the EK418/419 turnaround in CHC? its listed as 95 minutes.
I don't think from memory they have a transit area in CHC so would need to exit and re-clear customs.

If so there is a good option of MELxSYDxCHCxSYDxMEL for $2500 and 320SC which more importantly for those on a time budget can be done in a single day and in Emirates F. (777)

If EK could check you in for the return at SYD I would be confident of being able to do this.

Edit: Would OLCI solve this issue?

Most probably, I'm not in need of a SC run but found it whilst planning a short trip, not the best SC run around, but not the worst either.

You used to be able to MELxSYDxAKL on the fare too, but seems that's gone the way of the dodo too :(
