Digital Passenger Declaration to Replace Incoming Passenger Card

Samsung is quickly press down volume and off button together.

There must be thousands of passengers successfully fillig in a DPD evidenced by arrivals in Australia.

They can, including others on here.
Please have a look at the reviews. It currently has a rating of 1.3 out of 5.

Talk to some app developers and they will tell you it is a monster.

Read the vast majority of responses here and/or google the app and see the poor reports enmass.

Read the AFF Editors review of the app. The Australia DPD App Doesn’t Work Properly

Yes it works but poorly and thus far is an absolute waste of taxpayers money compared to what it should be able to do.

I dont need to read the reviews, I never said it was a good app or a good use of tax payer money BUT to claim you have to retype information is misleading as this is simply not the case if you use the app and are familiar with basic phone features like screen shots. It took 3 mins and I know will be faster next time as I am now familiar.

That is great for you however what people are trying to point out is that your experience is the exception to the rule and that most people unfortunately do not have that experience.
Many people are not as tech savvy, nor should they need to be if the app was any good.

Perhaps you know more less tech savvy people, BUT because some (not most) people struggle doesnt make the claim that you have to (as opposed to may need to if you dont use the app correctly) re-enter information an absolute fact.

I said that from the get go.

And my orginal reply was about Android (the worlds most commonly used mobile operating system)

You are full of it! In fact you almost win the title of being the Zaphod Breeblebox of AFF ... almost.

I did my first DPD with the app on Android 11. It was a PITA but succeeded after about 30 minutes.

Since then I have used the desktop based Web interface which has been relatively easy compared to the app when using autocomplete functions of Chrome despite the underlying HTML trying to prevent that.

Learning to ignore the "DPD incomplete" communication has been a benefit of my AFF membership.

You need only have read page 5 of this thread to know the trick to no app issues, I'll quote for you:

I thought this too… but if using an aussie vax certificate it does actually upload all the details… you have to keep scrolling down the page and hit enter. If you hit the ‘submit’ button or whatever at the top of the page it clears all the data.

I followed this advice and the app took about 3 minutes to use and i got the sucessful confirmation email immediately, no need to ignore any DPD incomplete message as that never eventuated.

From the same day, that person also concurrs it was simple

it’s actually really easy! Scanning the passport, the selfie, the vax cert QR… the app is pretty intuitive and has a pretty generous allowance in terms of the camera scanning any codes or pages.

I may be "full of it" if "it" is knowledge on how to use the app correctly, but only because i learned from the useful information posted here and elsewhere, and not being mislead that teh app doesnt work. It may not be a great UX but it does work, and a smart phone is much more convenient than having to lug a computer about.

Using an iPhone, the website on the iPhone is the only way to get the scrollling screen feature. Not on the app.

The email saying dpd incomplete is sporadic. I've used dpd 4 times so far. Got the incomplete twice but not the other 2 times.

Time to complete the dpd has also varied. It isn't necessarily quicker 2nd time around due to glitches. Eg not reading rfid chip properly in passport.

My advice to everyone is to allow 30 minutes and a bonus if it goes quicker.

Of course it should not take that long. It is stressful for some people.

... and this is the essence of the issue. The average traveller is very likely to have issues with the app as the average traveller won't even know about Page 5 of this thread. That is the experience of many people of various age groups and various technical knowledge. From talking to people it can be seen that your experience is the exception to the normal irrespective of what type of phone is being used.

No need to read the reviews but do read Matt's article The Australia DPD App Doesn’t Work Properly as it sums it up quite nicely.

The app should be easy and reliable for everyone irrespective of their phone type or abilities, age or anything else and currently it is not.

Just follow the instructions. Go thorough the app or website one step at a time, and don't look back once you have the acceptance email. easy-peasy!

Anyway, good news today, one less issue for the New Zealand DPD. No more pre-departure test after 21 June. the test was not an issue, just the logistics to get one done in a busy schedule.

Please don't misquote me. The devil is in the detail.

Incidentally my crowd (mainly military and civilian pilots) are generally a pretty tech savvy group I can assure you.

It should not matter which operating system a person is using

Please don't misquote me.

I did not quote you, i quoted Anna
*No trouble apart from extreme frustration with the govt IT idiots who think it is a good idea that you have to upload vax certificate, but then you have to separately and painstakingly type in all the details from said vax certificate

It should not matter which operating system a person is using

It doesnt matter, i know iphone users who have successfully submitted dpd using the app, but if being able to do simple functions like take a screen shot natively is important to you, youd do better to get a android where this is a standard featude of operating systems (and has been for well over a decade), rather than ios which pushes this simple feature onto app (meaning hit and miss availability).

Whilst I have an older Android phone it is no where near 10 years old but won't take a screenshot in the way you describe.
I am not interested in getting a new phone regularly mainly because I use a phone as a phone. I should not have to spend more money because the Government keeps putting out apps that are coughpy.
