Apart from the listed benefits, is there a real advantage to the average traveller getting to Platinum QFF status over Gold?

Do you get better service? Does the average steward[es] know individual passenger statuses?

Cheers

PS - and also a question I've been meaning to ask for a long time: I fly to BNE from SYD on a reasonably regular basis and there is a section behind Business class before Economy - what is this area and how do you get to sit in this bit? Who's it normally reserved for?

Passenger status shows on the manifest as well as on the BP.

WPs have higher priority for most things than SG. So if there's an op-up to be had, or irregular ops then more likely WP will get first crack (doesnt always happen but on balance).

As for FAs knowing the pax - well if you fly enough then you do get to know a few.

Gold and platinum have their own properties which make them unique. White gold is an alloy of gold and some white metals such as silver and paladium. White gold can be any 18ct...14ct...or anything. For example, 18ct yellow gold is made by mixing 75% gold (750 parts per thousand) with 25% (25 ppt) other metals such as copper and zinc.

Platinum is a white metal, but unlike gold it is used in jewlery in almost its pure form (95% pure). Platinum is extremel long wearing and is very white and does not need be Rhodium plated like gold.

The biggest differences are the
- cost
- weight
- color (depending on rhodium)

It's called economy.
You need to be super duper cool to sit there.

Benefits of Platinum Status

Just short of Gold again!

Not certain but I think they leave a gap between business and economy to make the people paying for business class feel a lot better.

Platinum vs Gold

Some differences I have noticed
Occasionally a f/a will come down to you and welcome you back. Have also occasionally had a newspaper brought down to me. On a flight to BKK they found me headphones when the wrong ones had been loaded for the flight and most missed out.
I have also had the purser come to me on a LAX flight in economy to tell me he could move me to another row where I would have three seats to myself. It seems to depend on the individual crews as to the extra attention you recieve. If you fly a lot this unexpected extra attention from a crew can leave you feeling good about your choice of airline.
Also seems there are more seats available for award flights.

A WP would normally get their preferred seating allocated before an SG; also would generally get upgraded before an SG.

That would be one of the six horrible ex BA 763's QF have. I hate them. :x

That area with two rows of seven seats is merely whY (Economy); aside from having a bassinet position in the middle of row 23 it generally gets filled with those of a higher status with forward aisle/window preferences listed.

Nah airlines put in as many seats as they can squeeze in. If they wanted business pax to feel better and space wasnt an issue, they would all have onboard bars/mini lounge.

Personally, that tiny cabin looks really claustrophobic to me - I would rather sit in the main cabin!

Conversely , they are my favourite 767s for domestic travel since , at the exit row where I tend to sit, there is a real door and a lot more space than the small overwing exit

Only tiny minus is that there's no Airshow moving map

I like the -336's as well, but a BIG minus is the lack of personal air vents (and this is something I dislike about the 747-436 as well).

This lack of vents is my main reason as well.

A specific experience has been ethced in my memory: Waiting to depart on the tarmac at Cairns for over an hour in the early afternoon. This on an aircraft crowded with PAX suffering the effects of a morning spent in the Cairns Humidity. NO AIR VENTS :x

Good point about the 7x7-x36's; why don't BA have vents?

It came up on another thread about reclining.

I wonder if reclining should be relegated to "dont mention" like bus. Not sure we can get away with it.
