Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with transit between airlines in Denpasar and could help me with some advice? In December I'm flying VA SYD-DPS and then Air Asia to Jakarta. The VA flight arrives 4pm. There is an Air Asia flight at 6:20pm and then another at about 10pm.

From what I've read I don't think 2 hours is nearly enough transit time, but would welcome advice from anyone who has experience. I've never been there before.

thanks!

If you are in international transit you should be fine. The queue in Bali relates to purchasing the visa fee and then going through immigration which you won't have to do I'd expect. Your luggage will go through to Jakarta but check this first.

Thanks Pushka. Should have said, it is international to domestic, two different airlines VA from BNE-DPS then AK from DPS to CGK (followed the following day by MH CGK-KUL-CDG).

Ok. That makes a difference. You might Google VIP entry into Bali as that cuts back the time. If there's a flight from Asia the queues can be awful.

Even if doing international to international transfer in Bali you 'usually' have to pay the visa and go through again.....

It's the backwards way that Bali is unfortunately!

Definitely with international to domestic you will have the pay the $35US (take $42 Aussie or a $59 note and get change in rupiah) then you will have to make you way outside through customs etc and to the domestic terminal which is not in the same building as the international terminal.

Also the VIP lines where you can pay $25/$35 to get through quicker have been disappearing as of late.....

If you don't have to be in Jakarta the same day, look at staying 1 night in Bali but head to seminyak - great restaurants then get a flight the following day. Lots of choices for airlines and don't forget to check out the garuda site as well as it's quite cheap for domestic flights.

You have chosen a difficult (and tiring) itinerary. Not only having to do a INT-DOM transfer at DPS with different terminals and onto a LLC (Air Asia) but then only having one night in CGK before a double hop to Paris! As well as the Visa fee you need to pay in DPS there is also a departure tax in Indonesia that is not included in the ticket - 150000 INR per person. Unless you are staying at the airport, there is about an hour each way into Jakarta to also factor into your planning. A pity you could not take MH directly from BNE to KUL and have a more relaxing stop in KUL (although it is still an hour each way to town).

Exit is now 200,000 rupiah...

Edit : that is only for international departures although I'm assuming that would be payable from Jakarta then?

Thanks for all the advice, appreciate it.

Am staying at the airport in Jakarta. It is a difficult itinerary, but I have time and flying out of CGK halves the cost of the MH business promo ticket compared to ex BNE. It is even cheaper ex BKK or TPE, but I used VA points to get to DSP. I've booked a late flight out of DPS, 6 hours. Plenty of time to relax on the plane. Looking forward to it.

It was 150000 INR out of CGK yesterday - all of around A$15 - maybe DPS is more expensive. Since the OP is leaving Indonesia through Jakarta, it should be the lesser amount.

Reviving old thread, I've booked my brother from ADL-SIN via DPS on a JQ connection - as in both flights booked on a single itinerary (It's school holidays, and even MH were > $1K return). I've only done DOM-DOM transfer at Bali, but I have transferred at CGK before - twice - on separate tickets (3K->QF and QF->SQ) - and presented myself at airside transit desk and completed transfer airside, and did not have to pay either VoA fee or Departure Tax. Does anyone know if similar arrangements exist at DPS? I assume given that JQ sell this as connecting flights with 1:25 connection, there must be an airside transfer available.
