Looking to make use of the generous SPG transfer in light of its pending doom.

Should I get the card now, or wait a few days still to see if any additional bonuses arise? (My plan is to get the DJ Amex, cancel then upgrade to DJ Platinum - as reading the T&C's I'll get both bonuses).

The David Jones is a great little card for $99. Great card for earning SPG Points and transferring to a myriad other airlines.

3 ppd at supermarkets and petrol stations
1 ppd for utilities / government / etc (no 1/2 ppd category like other cards)
Bonus Points for spending at DJ
30,000 bonus points transfers to SPG 15,000.

Amex welcome offers (assume this is provided on every new card)
$20 credit for $40 spend at DJ's Online (Free delivery on all David Jones orders and stack with Qantas Mall to get extra points on the purchase)
$15 credit for $30 spend at Woolworths

I can confirm that some one recently received sign up bonus points even though they already had an amex.
Let me know if you need any further info.

Here's my link if anyone would like to use it:http://amex.com.au/refer/sorayyjy88

One can apply for this card and then apply for an upgrade with bonus points later or apply for the DJ platinum directly to score 50 k bonus points if you are eligible.

@kapook I used your referral link this morning.

How long does this usually take for approval? Last couple of 'normal' AMEX cards have been instant, this says 5-10 working days!!

thanks Rock86 ! It does take 2-3 working days.
This is the last month to apply and convert the bonus received to SPG at a more favourable rate before the switch to Marriott and the devaluation!

no need to cancel and upgrade. the standard card gets upgaded and you receive the second bonus and refund of $99 fee.

That is the plan, hopefully they are on the ball and quickly get the initial card posted so I can have it all sorted how I envisage - really should have done this last month to give more time, ahh hindsight.

Awesome! That makes things much quicker at least! I plan to do the 3 transactions on day 1 of getting the card, then wait for that to setlle, transfer points and make the upgrade. I might be thinking to ambitiously though!!

Hello everyone,

With amex conversion rates eventually decreasing for some hotel partners, now's the perfect time to apply for the Amex DJ card, receive 50,000 sign on bonus points and make a conversion!

Clink via my referral link http://amex.com.au/refer/benjaavivz?XLINK=MYCP and you could score yourself 50,000 Amex MR points (or 37,500 Qantas Points!), that's 25% more points than you would receive if you signed up directly via DJ or Amex.

What's good about this card and how much does it cost?
- 4 MR points for purchases made at David Jones
- 3 MR points for purchases made at major supermarkets and petrol stations
- 1 MR points for everything else
(1 MR point = 0.75 Qantas points)

You'll also receive
- Invitations to exclusive season launch parades
- Complimentary priority delivery when using your card at David Jones
- Complimentary gift wrapping for purchases using your card at David Jones
- Fashion pay later, interest free options and christmas deferred payment options - refer to T&Cs
- Complimentary amex insurances - refer to Insurance T&Cs
- All for $295 annual fee

Receive 50,000 MR points sign on bonus quite easily by using the card three times anywhere outside David Jones, within 30 days of activating the card! Easy points. Please note that bonus only available to card holders who have not held a David Jones Amex card in the last 18 months. Sign up using my link here http://amex.com.au/refer/benjaavivz?XLINK=MYCP

Don't want to pay $295 annual fee but still want 30,000 points? Easy! Scroll down to bottom of referral page, select the standard card, be approved and spend three times outside David Jones within 30 days of approval. Annual Fee $99

My application was processed within 2 business days and received the card shortly after. If your application is approved, I will receive 30,000 MR points as a referral.

Others have reported signing up the standard card, receiving the bonus, upgrading the card, and receiving a secondary bonus. Try it for yourself but please remember, bonus points may not be received if you've received a DJ Amex card in the prior 18 months.

Thanks for considering and using my link http://amex.com.au/refer/benjaavivz?XLINK=MYCP :)

If I am not mistaken one can`t upgrade right away and need to have the standard card open and in good standing for about 3 months. that seemed to be the case in my partners case. can anyone else throw any light on it? How were you planning to upgrade ? do you have the link?

On another note can one be referred for the platinum card then do the referrer and referee receive the bonus points?

Ah ok, misunderstanding then. I thought I may be able to ring them to cancel, but rather then say what about upgrading the card to Platinum.

All approved @kapook, phone agent also confirmed I was eligible for the bonus points (which the T&C's state, but good having confirmation) and that the referrer will also receive points (even though I held the Amex QFF Ultimate previously).

Now to make a quick 3 purchases + refer my wife and father next week when I get the card to meet that 31 July SPG transfer deadline!

REceived the bonus points. thanks. did you ask them about the upgrade to platinum?

Ahhh, no I forgot. But I will ring them after I have transferred out to SPG and see if it's possible in such a short amount of time.

Okay @rock86 & @kapook - seems you guys are on top of this so forgive me as I've had analysis paralysis on so many ccards so I hope you can help me out on this:

I've got Platinum Edge so my understanding is that the bonus/welcome offers for DJ Amex does not apply to the standard 18 month amex offer restrictions?
What's this about referral for normal DJ then upgrading for another referral bonus?

Am I able to get referral for normal DJ MR for the normal card then upgrade and get the QFF points instead?

Thanks for your time

Correct, you will be eligible for the bonus points. The DJ Amex Card 'family' is treated differently to that of the other Amex issued cards, if you have had one of their standard cards, you will still be eligible for the bonus as per the T&C's (and confirmation from several sources including phone agents).

However to make it more confusing, if you were to do it the opposite way and get a DJ card first then you actually wouldn;t be eligible for their standard cards bonus until you wait out the 18 months - got to love the logic!!

What's this about referral for normal DJ then upgrading for another referral bonus?

2 different types of DJ cards - there's the standard DJ Amex & the Platinum DJ Amex. If you obtain the standrd card first then as per the Platinum DJ Amex T&C's you are still eligible to get the bonus points for the platinum card.

The conjecture here at present is whether you can upgrade from the standard card shortly after you have been issued it, or whether it needs remain in good standing for a few months before this is possible.

Either way you could cancel the standard card, and then after that cancellation is processed apply for the Platinum card and still be eligible for the bonus points. Which is what I may have to do if I cannot simply upgrade & if time permits, so I can maximise the current generous SPG transfer rates before 1 August.

Am I able to get referral for normal DJ MR for the normal card then upgrade and get the QFF points instead?

Not confirmed, but I would presume that if you simply 'upgraded' it would be under the same membership type. You may have to cancel and then reapply to changeover membership types, but this is conjecture on my part.

Thanks for your time

No worries at all, I'd love the referral if your looking to get the DJ Amex card, but won;t have a link until next week when I get my card :):) If you're looking to get it asap kapook has been great with assisting me whether some of my idea's would be able to happen.

I was trying to find this in the T&C, was this the T&C that pops up on the Amex website or the DJ PDF file regarding rewards in general? (If you have a link that would be appreciated).

So a cancel and application for the platinum would clearly be another credit hit. Do you think an upgrade will be another credit hit, too?
Regarding an upgrade does that mean $99+$295 or $99 + the difference of $295 ($196)?

I'm thinking of DJ only because it's great QFF earn rate since I purchase a lot of Woolworths eGift cards (for groceries + opal recharge).

Found on their T&C (https://icm.aexp-static.com/Interne.../pdf/david-jones-card/david-jones-mr-tncs.pdf)

5.3 You may opt to switch from the Membership Rewards program or David Jones Gift Card Rewards program (as applicable) to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program or vice versa no more than once each year

I guess I could get the bonus points, redeem them and then switch over to QFF and upgrade...

Won`t a fresh application for platinum disqualify you for the bonus since you have already held the standard card in the last 18 months?
Actually I tried to apply for the platinum while signed into my standard DJ card account and it stated that i might be ineligible for the bonus being an existing card holder. It works differently for the upgrade.

yes you can do that. and with the Amex : SPG conversion ratio reduction next month. it might be the better option.

An upgrade won`t mean another credit hit as its not a fresh application form credit. if you are approved for the platinum they will reverse the $99 charge and charge $295 for the platinum.

Not how it reads in the T&C's, reads as if you're only ineligible if you've previously held the DJ Amex Platinum in the prior 18 months. So cancel & re-apply should be fine - but yes you will cop another credit hit (although I would have thought there would be an enquiry even with an upgrade).

Thanks rock86. I can confirm my partner did not have a check on his credit file when he upgraded.
Does anyone know if you can refer yourself for the platinum card and receive points as referrer and referee?
