If you have been in the food prep and storage areas, it might change your view on the Food Hall (!!)

A friend of mine worked on the fit out there some years ago, after hours. He said that the rats were as big as cats and ran freely around. He never bought anything there again!

WOW. I love eating there at the Sydney and Melbourne one. Which Food Hall is this? I'm shocked.

Sydney. But I continue to shop there! He seemed to think the kitty cat rats were disturbed by the building works.

David Jones still do provide a stand alone store card for free. They just don't spruk it like the amex card. The interest rate is higher than the amex card too. It's really only good for a interest free period purchase. They still do the complimentary gift wrapping too for store/amex card holders.

I still have the standard David Jones store card. Best card I have ever had. As you say mine gets used for interest free big things like fridge etc, with competitors catalogues for a price match!!

They also seem to have stopped bugging those of us with the standard card to 'upgrade'
to the Amex offering.

Hmm. I've never had a DJ's store card, but I shop at DJ's a lot. How does the store card work? Do you pay it off with a credit card? Because if not, won't you be missing out on FF points for your purchases? Even if you pay your store card with a CC, does this get classified as a cash advance or as a legitimate points earning transaction?

That is the downside with the standard DJ store card, no FF points. I pay mine at the register when I am there, or with BPay.

David Jones Platinum Amex:

Annual fee $295
4,3,1 as stated before.
Transfers to QFF at 1:0.75 so $1 spent at DJ gets 4 reward points which converts to 3 QFF.
complimentary alterations, priority delivery, shopping suite bookings, shopping bag storage.

Basically only good if you spend a lot at DJ & use QFF.

Is this now an official offer and online?

Sign on bonus?

It could be made into a tempting offer, but the high entry cost will be a bit of a lump to get over unless one does a serious amount of DJ shopping each year. With the 3 points/$, converting (if you wish) directly to Amex MR for grocery/petrol shopping it bumps up against the Amex Plat edge for earn. Big question from me is:

Does the supposed transfer to Amex MR mean the 'real' Amex MR Ascent scheme or the special David Jones MR scheme which is much watered down as stated previously in this thread.

3x DJ MR points at 2:1 to airlines would be, for example, 1.5:1 Virgin Australia points ... meaning that whilst still a reasonable conversion rate, its not beating its competition, and the competition (Amex Edge?) comes with sign on bonus points + free flight every year + a real MR to Airline conversion rate of 1:1 .. meaning that 100$ of grocery shopping = 300 MR Ascent points = 300 Velocity points. The DJ MR scheme means that $100 grocery spend = 300 DJ MR points then converted at 2:1 to 150 Velocity points

Once the card is actually released we can nut out how the mechanics of it work. It got my interest, I shop a lot at DJ, but lets see what the fine print has to say.

Will be official tomorrow - check website.
No word on sign-on boni.
CE, 4 plat Supps are free too. Just nice for you & Cruiserette.
Yes I will definitely sign up - Cruiserette will take one up herself also - she does spend a fair bit at DJs - since she started flying around in J on SQ we have unleashed another CC / FF pts junkie.

Thanks for your post mate.

My understanding is that it's the latter.

The real winner with this card is one who spends a lot (say over $10K a year) with DJs.
At 4 points per $, which converts to either 3 QF or say 2 KF miles, it is a good earn.
Great if you have a house to furnish for example, or in need of a whole new wardrobe.

I have to say though that for me the DJ Amex is most useful for interest free purchases for 2-3 years,
and the occasional bonus points offers. Well worth $99 (for the basic card) and sign on bonus of 30K (at the time).
Makes the cost of a lot of big ticket items seem like pocket money.

I did have that card previously and copped the bonus pts - then cancelled it.

I cannot believe they would try to float a new card without a reasonable sign on bonus - but I guess time will tell.

Interesting: 3 points at Supermarkets/Petrol, 2 point for DJs, 1 point to everything else.

Still try to find the link of their "Membership Rewards" points conversion to airline miles table.

But there is nothing new about this card / offer is there?

I thought was indicatioins that new offer was to be forthcoming as of Sept 1?

Not bad. 3 x 0.75 QFF = 2.25 QFF points per dollar on petrol and supermarket spend. Worth a look, but only for petrol and supermarkets.

There is a new offer. We received a mail out for the Platinum Amex yesterday. With the conditions you quoted.
Also spend 3 times in DJ's within the first month and get 30K bonus DJ's points / 22,500 QFF points.
