Thank you! I bought 2019 and I liked it; so I bought 2018 based on your reviews. I also called the winery and the lady also said she preferred 2018 over 2019 for her personal taste. The winery has 2016 for tasting. Grays have 2015, 2017 and also 2021 but based on alcohol levels and feedback I am comfortable with 2019 and 2018 for now.Brief impressions on some from the Grays auctions, from my postings over at my place.
Monday. Tried the 2018 vintage tonight, 15.0% a/v and quite full in the old Summerfield style before they started picking earlier, warm and lush (not hot) yet still with that savoury/minerally Pyrenees character. Picked up another dozen tonight at $230.48 delivered for one of the tasting group.
My Thursday tasting group sampled 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2021 Reserves last night.
Clear preference was the 2019, big bold 15.5% and pushing the ripeness envelope, but it all works, kept in check by moderate oak and a hit of fine tannin.
The 2021 was next, quite a change in style at 14.5% and lesser density of colour and palate weight, good fruit though and still nicely balanced, more "modern".
The 2018 was also showing well again, as above.
The 2016 was ranked last by many, top by a couple, it's soft and mature and ready to drink, 14.9% but no heat, just hearty but easy drinking. One taster took the remaining 5 I have, I don't need any more drink soon wines. Another person I shared the 2016 buy with tried one and went back for another dozen.
