My payment didn't go through, so despite getting card details in, no luck for me. I'm OK with the system - they don't want to price the wine at a level they feel is silly, limiting to 4 bottles minimises reselling to some degree. Same as concert events with ticketmaster etc. people will always get frustrated, which is understandable, but in the end you have something more people want, then can have, so some people have to miss out. Gotta be in it to win it, and ill try again next year!

I just checked reseller pricing on Melbourne Wine House..... That is just nuts. Looks like ever since 2021 vintage things have stepped up in difficulty in buying the Chard. Or at least demand has gone through the roof thanks to the 100 point ratings.

completely random process. got 4 chards but did not get the roussane or pinot even though put in 2 of each of them. Happy with the result but thought it did not go through at the payments page. as the website didnt go any further but 40 mins later got the email confirmation and checked my credit card got hit for the 4 bottles... and $25 postage. Did not get anything last year so happy with the 4 bottles. I will not resell!

I think a better system is have staggered release for those who support them and have ordered in the past

April 8 was the early release for long standing customers, allocation 6 Chard, 3 Pinot, 3 Rouss. Not for me though, only been on 5 years.

Funnily enough I'd wager a number of those that have been buying for many years have also been reselling for many years! Not sure the long term commitment does anything to minimise the secondary market.

My friend told me those people who do resell use software to connect the website, it emit lots of webpage request (10000 times faster than you use mouse to click into the website). So you merely have chance to get to the purchase page.

The payment page timed out, however I have a charge pending for 3 bottles of chardonnay and 1 PN, albeit without the shipping charge having been applied. No confirmation email yet, however I recall that last year others experienced similar issues and, after contacting the winery, their orders were subsequently confirmed. We'll see what unfolds over the next couple of days.

Call me cynical, but I suspect Giaconda probably likes this current system.
The public offering has been a circus for a while now and they are not really changing anything. Allocation of 4 each is not a big deal for a team of resellers with specialised software.
This system creates excitement, social media buzz and general craziness and frenzy.
It's easy publicity and prestige for the brand.

I'm in the same boat.
I would assume missing out once means reset to zero year customer

I wouldn't be surprised if there was grandfathering for very long standing, en primeur customers. I can't see how it would work otherwise, say as Rockford does with Stonewallers, given the lottery. Pinot appeared to sell out first, so a bottle of anything is just luck.

I have to say i think (as someone who works in an organisation with ecomm) that this is unlikely. They aren't a huge corporation and investing heavily in ecomm infrastructure that can hold up to massive demand for what is ultimately one single day a year (and for a relatively small output/revenue) is probably a big ask. Those services cost a significant amount of money and they aren't a massive producer. I think you have to give them a bit more credit because there are plenty of businesses that have gone the other way and gone to ballot systems with massively jacked up prices to take advantage of huge demand and collector hype (I'm looking at you Sullivan's Cove).

I have to say i think (as someone who works in an organisation with ecomm) that this is unlikely. They aren't a huge corporation and investing heavily in ecomm infrastructure that can hold up to massive demand for what is ultimately one single day a year (and for a relatively small output/revenue) is probably a big ask. Those services cost a significant amount of money and they aren't a massive producer. I think you have to give them a bit more credit because there are plenty of businesses that have gone the other way and gone to ballot systems with massively jacked up prices to take advantage of huge demand and collector hype (I'm looking at you Sullivan's Cove).

Fair comments, which I accept.
However the current release method does work in Giaconda's favour.
The huge demand and massive hype is largely due to the frenzy on public release day.
If the prices were jacked up, the frenzy disappears and the profile of the winery would be lower.
(e.g look at Cloudburst Chardonnay with perfect scores and current vintage readily available at $440 a bottle.)
Different grape clone, but every bit as good as Giaconda, and most people have never heard of them.
