Maverick Wines 'The Maverick' I assume.
You have it!

Grand pappy is also a barossa shiraz cab 'priced' at $320, but dave brookes only scored the 2020 94pts, while he gave the mav 96, including the two words langtons quoted...

Langtons confidential seems overprice given VM had it down from $320 to $50 (now sold out)

I'm still not at all tempted!

I bought some a few months ago at the 90% off or whatever the ridiculous deal was at WS.
I haven’t tried it yet.
The problem with all these super discounted heavy reds right now is that it’s way too early to drink them and decide it you like them..
Older vintages are some guide, but of course quality and aging potential does vary between vintages.
With respect, I disagree. If it isn't a good red now it won't be a good red in the future no matter what magic happens in your cellar.

I think we are both correct.
Two year old big Aussie Shiraz just tastes like tannin to me. The elements are not yet integrated.
There are Huon Hooke reviews on TRR where his scores jump 6-8 points tasting big reds 10 years after initial review.
Obviously initial reviews have to be done on release to market.

IMO most of Hewitson's reds are not big and oak heavy, they are more subtle. I would suggest there isn't a huge scope for enhancement with this wine, and the market agrees and that is why it is $40. To be clear, it's a nice wine, I just didn't connect with the taste of the fruit or believe in the long term potential. But each to their own.

Ok now I’m confused.
See wine searcher website.
James Suckling reviewed the ‘23 cask 66 12 months ago and suggested “drink now”
I might just do that 😊

Let me know how you go I have a couple '22 cask 66 I haven't tried yet. I was also going to cellar them but if they are anything like the Falkenberg I tried perhaps it is more of a drink now style. I found the Falkenberg had very soft tannins and nice fruit. Perhaps it could develop more complexity over time but drinks well to me now.

So, drinking the 2023 Cask 66 now.
It is ready.
Nose is a little reserved (for a Barossa shiraz).
Tannins are integrated and not intrusive. Medium weight.
Quite spicy, which I was not expecting. I personally prefer a more fruit forward nose and palate.
It improves with aeration.
Certainly great value at $40, but not really tempted to buy more.
