Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Two deals from DM, but could be store or stalk specific?

Torbeck The Struie, $38.65 when in six, nets down further to around $35 with JULY30 (but don't order exactly 6 as you pay more for 6 then it should be?!). Click and collect at DM Prahran in Vic was the only one I could find in Melbourne.

Head The Brunette, $43.30 when in six, nets down further with code. Seems to be available at more high end stores only.

The 2018 brunette is $35 at Nick's/Gray's

Yes, good spot. The ones I got filled from DM were newer vintages.
Another reason I seldom buy online at DM (or Coles chains), I don't play vintage lottery.
With the recent decent discount codes I mostly bought sparkling/Champagne, spirits and a couple of wines where the vintage was actually stated.

Overall I agree, to overcome I checked with live support before I ordered (they called store) to check the vintages.

I generally don't do click/collect, often what I'm after isn't available at my local store anyway, or is a higher price. And my deliveries (to Canberra) have come from all over Australia, as far as Perth. My recent Pommery Vintage deliveries came from ACT, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide.
I'm retired, with plenty of time on my hands, but I choose not to spend waste it chasing DM for vintages.

I wonder what proportion of their sales are via online compared to in-store?
Having a (very) poor online experience, with poor logistics and delivery arrangements doesn't help.

I don't think they can solve the availability and "vintage lottery" issue for online orders unless they implement one or more fully managed warehouse(s) for online sales, with tracking of vintages in stock, effectively a special "store" for online delivery sales, rather than shipping whatever stuff they have from wherever it may be according to some weird algorithm that doesn't work half the time.

I had a crack at this. Still too young and a bit tightly wound but has all the hallmarks for an excellent wine that will really shine in 2-3 years.
Better than "The Blend" by Powell & Son that was offered around the usual suspects at a similar price.

CM over at The Wine Front gave it 94 points which is a high score there and describes the wine perfectly.
Opened a bottle tonight and really enjoying it. Agree it'll be better in afew years but still drinking quite good now imo, especially after a decant. Good value for the price.

I imagine they will need to move to the model you describe for the higher end of the market. Possibly even a separate website with "The Cellar" branding to match their boutique store at Martin Place. This would segment their customers better, reduce stock discrepancies, allow for specified vintages, reduce postage, etc.

They already have langtons for this and it is well recognised internally that the Martin Place store is a massive flop
Langtons doesn't work effectively in that role, they need something like TWC (but better). Cut out the DM bs, bloat and clutter, Langtons pseudo-elitism, guarantee vintages offered, efficient logistics and communication.

It might be less of a flop if they had a supporting online store with seperate branding.

Don’t think Langton’s quite works due to mix of auction and store and no pick up options.
